Even the steps didn't dampen our love of the apartment.

What an amazing space in an amazing location. Such a treat to wake up to the sunrise and watch the sunset over the beautiful coastal view. We loved going for a run every morning and stopping for breakfast in Kalk Bay. The town is absolutely charming and everyone so friendly and we were spoilt for choice when it came to shopping or grabbing a bite to eat.

I was unlucky with the weather but on sunnier days it he outdoor area is a super nice spot to hangout.

Susanna, the host is super friendly and the view is great. Close to the rock pools and the little boutique hotel down by the road serves delicious breakfast.

The many stairs however the host did give warning once booking was confirmed. We had one issue , being a self catering unit we found many of the dishes /crockery was not cleaned properly. everything had to be re-washed before using.

The location and view spectacular. very friendly host, we needed fire wood and fire lighters and she happily gave us some.

Only downside is that the road to get to the house is a big staircase. So with a lot of luggage it is not too handy. Great workout though!

The view was great! Acoomodation was nice and clean. Beautiful garden.

The only issue for us was the steps to the property.about 200 up from the beach road. But as N older couple it worked out we walked down to town and then just got an uber to drop us off at the top road (40rand). Then walk a couple of flights down

We liked everything. At first the climb up the 200 steps from the main road by the sea front were hard work but after a few days we got used to the exercise. There is another option if being dropped off by taxi, you can ask them to stop at the top of the Steps on Boyes Drive and then the accommodation is only about 50 steps down from that road. We did experience a few power cuts but they were across the Western Cape so nothing Susanna could do about them so we adapted.

The accommodation was perfect for a couple and as detailed in the listings. The photos do not really do the place justice, especially the far reaching views from the pool area and the bedroom. Susanna was an excellent host, indeed the best we have ever dealt with. She was extremely helpful (providing a fan, extra towels and local recommendations etc.) while still giving us privacy. The kitchen is well equipped and the coffee machine was well used by us! The pool (salt water) is perfect for a refreshing dip and I found it a bit warmer than the sea. The nearby shops and restaurants in St James and Kalk Bay are great and mean you are spoiled for choice with great options. Susanna put us in touch with Allan who was an excellent (safe) taxi driver for us. Overall we had an amazing week at Susanna's place and would highly recommend it to couples.

We LOVED absolutely everything, from the personalised touches such a welcome bottle of wine with a note to celebrate my partner's birthday. To the owner accommodating our unpredictable check-in times. The private pool was clean and sparkling bright! I cannot wait for our next stay! Highly highly highly recommend!

We only had 2 towels for 5 days and with no heated towel rack i found that this was not enough. They were very soaked and not ideal to use by the end of the trip. We also had issues using the microwave and elective stove top. The microwave timer was complicated and then the stove top just made an extremely loud noise . We were a bit concerned so decided easier to not attempt using.

This spot was very lovely, great location (be prepared for stairs!). The outdoor area was great and the host was very helpful. The room its self was tidy and comfortable

There is nothing not to like, expect for the many steps due to no direct street access. But the spectacular view of the ocean makes the exercise worthwhile.

I loved the outdoor space and the wonderful views. The accommodation is finished with upmarket finishes and I was sad to leave. The close walking proximity to Kalk Bat is a bonus for those that love to walk. Susanna is a wonderful host and makes one feel very welcome.

We really enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect, the sea view amazing and the private pool a luxury. The host goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. The apartment is clean, neat and has everything you need. Will definitely visit again!

Nothing. Lay @ The Sea exceeded all our expectations. The stairs was a bit of a challenge in the heatwave Kalkbay experienced while we were there, so the swimming pool was put to good use every time we arrived back at the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed everything about Lay @ The Sea! Susanna has managed to capture a feeling of light and spaciousness and furnished it with everything you need for a comfortable stay. She is a wonderful hostess - there if you need her, but never intrusive and gave us some great recommendations on the local restaurants and area when we arrived. The views from both the room and the pool area are magnificent, the beds extremely comfortable and it is well equipped for selfcatering. For us, it was the perfect location from which to explore the town and shops, try out the different restaurants in the area and then head back for a glass of wine at the pool in the evening.
