How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

This apartment was advertised as LUXURY - IT WAS WAY SHORT OF THAT (well worn and faded glory), but relatively comfortable. Had to sign in and collect keys from a hotel remote from the accommodation. When the representative met us she stopped my car as we went into the Majestics grounds. Unfortunately, where she stopped me was too close to the gate and the Automatic gate closed on my hire car and dented it. The Majestic Manager was a complete idiot and absolved the Majestic Management from all Blame. He said I should have move completely away from the gate to avoid being hit. I protested and said the gate should not have closed on my car and there was no sign to warn me. He replied that there was no need for a sign as everybody knows not to stop, Not a complete stranger, such as a tourist would know that -obviously! There was no air conditioning. The Oven and extractor fan were filthy when we arrived and the apartment smelt of old cooking fat. The shower had a lot of black mould in it. Florian the Manager quickly got a cleaner to fix the problem. But it should not have been me that spotted and smelt the problem The renting organisers Manager FLORIAN was excellent and sorted out the dent in my car and fixed anything that was wrong with the apartment quickly
Location in a great place. Safe with 24 hour Security, with onsite covered parking. Electricity back up during the many , many load shedding occurrences.

Needed proper checking before our arrival! Attention to detail required. Freezer iced up and seal dirty. Curtains needed hanging properly. Burnt out candles in bathroom.
Brilliant location. Large airy attractive quirky apartment. Comfortable bed with good linen and towels Pleasant outside area

What is advertised on Booking.com is not what we thought we were booking. The actual listing shows an apartment with beautiful sea views, but in reality what you get is completely different. When we made the reservation, we didn't realize until after the reservation had been confirmed that the Majestic Apartments is managed by the Chartfield Guest House located a couple of streets away. This is where you check-in and pick up the keys. Not a big deal, but inconvenient if you are carrying a lot of luggage and unfamiliar with the area. After check-in, we were guided to our apartment by the manager. Much to our dismay, this is when we found out that our apartment was located at the back of the Majestic on the ground floor and we were looking out onto a parking lot. This is not what is shown on the listing. False advertising much! Secondly, the listing advertises a queen size bed. In reality, the bed is two single beds pushed together to look like a queen size bed. Only two single duvet covers were provided, not a queen size duvet. Also, the bed was rock hard and not very comfortable. A mattress topper could have helped. Thirdly, the apartment has underfloor heating installed throughout. Unfortunately for us, none of the heating was working anywhere throughout the flat. Even after troubleshooting the circuit breakers, we could not get the heating system to work. One supplementary heating fan was provided. Unfortunately, it was about the size of a teakettle and made more noise than provide adequate heat. Lastly, even basic amenities such as hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, tea and coffee was not provided. Although we knew we were renting a self catering apartment, this is not what I would have expected from an new apartment listing itself as one of the best places to stay in Kalk Bay.
The location of the Majestic Apartments is the only thing going for it.
