The dinner menu was a bit limited in terms of options. One of the rooms in which we stayed was very dark, since the shutters could not be opened.

    Friendly staff. Great location. Cosy.

The cold water tap in the shower is very sensitive, 2 mm in either direction is the difference between ice-cold and burning hot. Once you find the sweet spot it is a nice shower.

Great location with friendly helpful staff. The fires that are kept burning in the lounge and restaurant areas are lovely.

Booking dates were wrong although it was confirmed by booking.com. We changed dates and the hotel did not have the change on their system.

the rooms, the fireplace in the bar and in the lounge on a cold winters evening. the prices of alcohol is so cheap and a meal costing R800 for three people is good value for money anytime.

she is a charming old lady, that has just been given an amazing make over, she is preening in her new dress. I love this place with a feeling of colonial times gone by

    No complaints

Although it is an old hotel, this just adds to the charm that is the Royal. Staff and service were impeccable, you definitely feel like royalty when you visit. We loved sipping port by the crackling fireplace (there are a few), as well as having a two course breakfast on the "stoep". Will definitely return!

The breakfast room is next to the bar. Very small and on rainy days there are not enough tables.

Was disappointed to find (on a cold night) that the fireplaces are only decorative (I booked the unit because of the fireplace in the photo); but the hotel admitted that the website was misleading and needs to state that and sent me a bottle of MCC which I thought was a nice token. We tried to go to the restaurant at 20h30 and we were told that they would only serve us dessert; I thought that was a little ridiculous. At very least expected the kitchen woudl be open until 21h00. So then had to wonder around town tryin gto find a place to eat. Did have breakfast at the restaurant and we both found the breakfast to be very poor. The oats were not at all good, the omelet was poor (all ingredients inside were raw / cold - i.e. had requested friend banana, was raw, tomato was still cold/fresh and not even the cheese had melted, was still in blocks). My partner had egg on toast and a sausage on the side and it was just so poorly presented; no garnish etc. Expected a lot more .

Well located hotel; very clean; beautiful building, well maintained. Beds were comfortable, units were spacious, nice that there is a bar, restaurants etc on site, all in all a very nice hotel and a very nice suite. Beautiful views, grounds are well maintained.

retained much of the original style and feel in the main building. However the suites along the garden are modern, roomy and comfortable. The long shaded stoep (verandah) is a classic and well used for meals and drinks. Perfect place to relax.
