Trennerys is a an interesting hotel on the wild coast. There appear to be some good rooms, but unfortunately ours was not one of them. I booked a double, on Booking.com and it appeared to have outside seating on a little verandah and a sliding glass door. We were allocated a double with an adjoining small bunk room, a solid door that did not fit very well and little else to recommend it. A light switch would not stay on, and the bathroom door had no handle on the outside. They were very quick to come and fix the light switch, but did not offer us the room I thought I had booked, even though the hotel was not full and we asked for a room change. The room had a coke bottle jammed in the rafters, gecko poo on the pillows (day and night- Don't sleep with your mouth open), and no info about events, like boat trips available, local singers and dancers in the dining room on Saturday night and that the kei mouth ferry does not operate at low tide. So you drive 16km on poor roads to find there is a 3 hour wait for the ferry. Notices stated mask wearing was required in the lounge and dining room, but this was not enforced on Friday night, nor saturday at breakfast. Adults and kids were all over the food, with no masks, and fingers going into the buffet items. I mentioned that during covid, this was not ideal and masks were enforced on Saturday evening, and Sunday, but by Monday guests were ignoring the signs, again.

They were very quick to come and fix the light switch. Good points were fabulous, helpful staff, and a lovely situation. There are events, like boat trips available, local singers and dancers in the dining room on Saturday night but you will need to ask about what is on as there are no signs or info sheets. Saturday night is apparently known for its fresh seafood buffet, but if you are not a fish fan, the fabulous staff will cook something else for you.

The room we stayed in was dated and tired compared to room numbers in the 20's and 30's. The roof panels flapped in the wind although in fairness this may not have been brought to the attention of the staff prior to our stay.

Room 31 needs some tlc! Subsiding floor and smelly carpet(?) needs to be sorted out.

The location and beach . Private beach . Child minder playing with the children was lots of fun. Trevor's trails ! Great food !

We had an excellent time at Trennery's. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food very good, especially the dinner where we enjoyed the seafood. The trip to the waterfall was something to remember. Thank you!

I loved everything and can't fault them.

The atmosphere, the staff. Excellent facilities to jist destress and unwind. The seafood buffet is amazing.

Where to start... dated and run down. Maintenence wouldn't be enough. Needs to be demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Way overpriced.

The room is not as advertised and the hotel is a bit run down. No proper maintenance. My toilet didn't flush, the room was not clean at all.

The receptionist was lovely and very helpful. The location is beautiful. The food was delicious.

Breakfast ending at 9:30 and not being advised of and after missing breakfast offered burgers that was charged in my room, to me that is double payment. My room was supposed to have a bath 🤷🏿 and a shower but there wasn’t any bath.

Trennerys is an old family favourite. Next to the sea and has an old school hotel vibe.

1. When we arrived we used cold water to shower because we were not aware you have to let water run for over 5 min before hot water comes. This is very wasteful. 2. Our sliding door had come off the rail when we arrived. So we had to fix it ourselves as it was already late. 3. Ordered an omelette for breakfast, I think the lady they had was new. She was slow and looked like she'd never made one before. A colleague had to step in. And yes, it wasn't the best omelette I had. 4. The housekeeping does not bring the iron to the room. The facility has a tiny ironing room you get directed to, this room was very dusty, and looked like it had not been cleaned in a while.

I liked the location. Love that it has a beach so close.
