Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThere was some evidence of maintenance issues not addressed which were disappointing. For example a shower door was unable to close and leaking water in uncontrollable amounts. This did not stop us using the facility but from the state of the shower unit it must have been noticed and not repaired. No venison on the menu (apart from Springbok carpacchio) , this really was not expected and no reason offered. Poor show! The cost of the stay was very great, clearly aimed at visiting rich foreign tourists. As well as a high per night rate the game drives were also at the highest cost end of our experience. Probably the most we have ever paid for accommodation. I am fairly sure the lodge owners are just not interested in attracting local SA tourists. A pity really.
A unique environment of desert mountains and river a short drive away. Fabulous scenery and opportunity to see some wild life. Springbok, Oryx and Eland came to join us for dinner every night. Excellent staff with consistently friendly attitude. Superb food , extremely well prepared and attractively served. Our guide to a pleasant river expedition was well informed and very comfortable to admit gaps in his knowledge , Humphrey, good luck with your exams.

South AfricaAn oasis in the Northern Cape alongside the Orange River. Beautiful desolate stark rocky landscapes and views. Spectacular afternoon thunderstorms. A stunning lodge which we luckily had to ourselves. Norman our guide, Mpho, the manager, and the whole team were incredible. Delicious food. Loved the quiver trees and huge sociable weaver nests. We even saw a pygmy falcon - a lifer! The whole experience was so much more than we could have imagined. Norman even gave me photography tips for my iPhone with features I had no idea about!

South AfricaThere was absolutely nothing we did not like.
Fantastic experience. Lodge checked on ETA. We were met at the entrance by a friendly guide. Arrival at the lodge was an event. Staff were waiting as we arrived. We were given hand towels to refresh and an ice cold drink. Nothing was too much for the staff. They were fantastic. The chef carefully planned meals around dietary requirements. The rooms are beautiful and we never felt the heat. Facilities are great. The game drive was an awesome experience. What a landscape.

South AfricaThey need to message guests with instructions on how to get to the lodge from the time you enter the gravel road, and prepare the guests on the travel time it will take from the tar road to the lodge. We got lost because, when we saw the sign to the lodge, the gate was locked, and there was no one at the gate to indicate that we were at the right place, plus, the lodge's accommodation is not within sight at the gate so that confused us, so we ended up driving past the entrance assuming that the gate is probably not the correct entrance.
The view of the rock mountain from the terrace will bring you to tears, it's so beautiful. Imagine sitting by the pool, sipping your favorite drink, and seeing eland and zebra, among others, come up close to you to have their sip of the water near the pool, it was an extraordinary experience. Star gazing, the game drive to the Orange River, the 5-star service from the team, and the delectable meals were but some of my highlights.

South AfricaWe were the only guests (which was wonderful!); I kinda hoped we would be upgraded to the family suite - to give us a wow experience at no extra cost to them. Food was fine but didn’t match the sophistication of the hotel - maybe simpler but tastier? But all in all one of the best hotels in SA!
Amazing location; 5-star but tasteful accommodation and - especially - common lounge and restaurant areas; beautiful outside areas with swimming pool and terraces overlooking animals coming to drink; lovely staff especially the manager Vanessa who was exceptionally helpful and friendly; great game drives around the valleys and down to the Orange River (more for absorbing the semi desert terrain than to see big game, FYI).

United KingdomThe last 45 kms is on a gravel road which isn’t much fun. you need to take it slow. There is a cellphone signal for most of it though.
Stunning property in a truly beautiful location. The room was very opulent and comfortable with superb views overlooking the pool and valley. Food was excellent, plentiful and beautifully served. The drives in the reserve were interesting and varied and the landscape is gorgeous

South AfricaThe lightning in the rooms was a bit low, but this was a minor problem. There are a couple of midges (small fruit flies) around, but nothing too serious, and whenever a breeze blew, they disappeared
I recently stayed at Tutwa Lodge and had an absolutely amazing experience. The location is stunning, with the lodge situated between two dry river beds that have carved a valley and a gorge between the mountains. Although it's about 7km from the Orange River, the lodge's endless pool falls into a game water hole, which brings lots of wildlife right to your doorstep. Sitting on a lounger next to the pool and watching animals drink water right in front of you is truly unforgettable. The food at the lodge is world-class, with breakfast being stunning and way too much, but luckily lunch is normally light. Dinner is again an amazing experience, and the wine cellar offers an excellent selection. The game drive is really worth it, and Norman was very knowledgeable. One of the highlights of my stay was sitting on a lounger and enjoying the incredible view of nature. Overall, I would highly recommend the Lodge to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. Thank you to the owners/managers for their hospitality and for making us feel welcome
