How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The first room we were given had a very unpleasant view over a builders yard and not the pool, as advertised. There was no dstv either. But staff were very happy to move us to a huge room downstairs, which had Netflix. It also had a lovely lounge area, which was a bonus.
Breakfast was plentiful and staff were very accommodating of my needs as a vegetarian.

We booked the place while on the road and arrived about 2 hours later, after a long 5hr drive, but was met by a grumpy, obnoxious person. He complained about it not being a 24hr establishment (we arrived just before 11pm as opted on the site). Yet, there was an OPEN sign over the door in red and blue lights. He also said he couldn't find the booking and suggested we pay the nights accommodation, which we didn't as we already paid online and had confirmation. We then opted to leave early the next morning, without having breakfast.
The establishment was good, although we did not have time to experience it in its entirety, because we arrived late, and opted to leave early the next morning.

The shower is in the bath with a cheap curtain and no non slip mat so very slippery when showering Duet was placed wrong way on bed Breakfast was dismal and of very poor quality. Tinned fruit, both bowls of yoghurts were sweetened and the muesli was sugary. A diabetics nightmare. Their breakfast was not great, one small piece of overcooked wors and 1 small rasher of bacon, 2 eggs and some tomato that I had to request. We paid a discounted price but I would have been furious if we had paid the full rate and were served this poor type of breakfast 😠

Supper inside with smell of cooking oil which was thus overdue for change.
Room very adequate and lighting far better than most hotels. Bathroom good. Dinner good value at the price for basic cuisine. Charming young new waitress. Breakfast very goood value.

When we arrived the host could have explained the situation with the pool which appeared to be temporarily out of action (I chose the lodge because of the pool) and provided the wifi login, we had to wait until breakfast to get this as we forgot to ask and then it was too late to ask anyone and no info in the room. One room had a mosquito repellant device, the other didn't, unfortunately the room that didn't was assailed with mossies making for a poor night's sleep. Rooms could probably benefit from a fan, otherwise it wouldn't be practical to close the window in summer. This may be available on request, we didn't ask. These are all not insurmountable concerns.
Highly recommend this lodge. Location super, great rooms - spotless, elegant, comfortable, generous size. The Lodge has a lovely art collection. Breakfast was great - muesli, fruit etc as well as full English breakfast. Fell in love with Barrydale.

I thought it was a heated pool, but it is just a regular cold pool.
The location was good and the room was very neat and comfortable.

There was no soap or shampoo provided and we hadn't brought our own the frist night. The place, in general, has lost its character over the last couple of years. It used to be really, really nice.
Staff are friendly and keep the place going.

We got a room with two single beds instead of a room with a double bed that we booked. They offered to move us the next day but it was too much of a schlepp. The room was very hot. There was a small fan, but very noisy. Mosquitoes bit us during the night. We had two restless nights' sleep. No ice or drinking water on the premises. The tap water tasted terrible.
The staff were very friendly and the location was great.

Staff were not on duty - only available by phone There have been water shortages in Barrydale for years so why have they not removed the bath and put in a decent shower - we hate showers over baths with tatty shower curtains.
The room was big and spacious. The greeting was warm and friendly.

First day we had no hot water, the shower bead is blocked so the water pressure is minimal. The double bed is 2 single beds pushed together that separate during the night. I had to get up 5 times to push them back together. All the room’s doors don’t close easily and get stuck. Neighbours woke us up constantly during the nights going in and out of their rooms.
Friendly staff, clean and in a good location.
