How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Our host, Janine was so friendly and helpful! Checking in at the Harbour House hotel was also a pleasure, we were greeted with friendly smiles and a bottle of water or a glass of wine. The location is excellent! You felt like you were in a little European village. Lovely linen and towels, wonderful showers! Everything, very clean and convenient!

I'm convinced that one night there was a cricket in my bedroom !!! Otherwise no complaints at all.
I've stayed there a few times..love the location...and it's such good value. Very friendly and helpful staff too. Will highly recommend the Zzone.

No backup power for loadshedding (but they did provide a solar charted light in the room), and it felt a bit hot in the building - I guess no AC, but it wasn't too bad
The location is super convenient, right at the heart of things. Facilities were top-notch and clean. The room is well kitted out with comfortable bedding, a fan, kettle, fridge, bedside lamps, and some free tea and coffee. Very helpful and friendly staff, and the place is cleaned every day. The lounge and kitchen area is large and nicely laid out. There is free wifi and plug points. There's also a nice balcony area. A nice bonus is that they give you access to a pool in a building across the road.

The property is located in the centre of Hermanus close to the restaurants and shops. It offers clean and comfortable accommodation. Janene went out of her way to ensure that we had what we needed to enjoy our stay. We have stayed here a number of times and will definitely be back again soon.

Rooms are extremely hot. That's the only thing I can be negative on.
Location can not be better. Staff are very helpful and engage with all guests to ensure they are comfortable.

I didn't like the continuous air conditioner sound (not for the room but other places) outside the window. Maybe I'll try a room on the other side next time. But it's how things are so we accepted that's it.

There is no hostel vibe as there isn't much interaction with fellow guests.
This hostel is basically a cheap hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean and have all your needs. The location is spot on. Friendly staff.

there was a night club nearby that played loud music until late..at times awful music, a matter of taste..but this did not negatively affect my stay

No "safe" parking. Have to park in the road.
Value for money, extremely clean and quiet. Very close to everything so we could leave the car there and walk everywhere.

The staff didn't show us the kitchen, it was even locked during our first night maybe because we where the only guests. The second day we see the staff showing people around and telling them they could use the kitchen anytime. We threw away food because we couldn't cook that first night and thought there was no kitchen available. So we were pretty upset about that.

The accommodation is exceptionally clean and comfortable. A good breakfast is also available at the Harbour House Hotel. We will definitely be back.

The staff was lovely. The rooms were spacious. The shared bathrooms were clean, safe and convenient. The communal area was comfortable. The location was really perfect. Value was very good. I highly recommend for budget travelers.

Not so much a negative however was very quiet and didn't have much soul.
Incredible value for money. Huge rooms and the shared bathrooms are modern and better than you might expect. Comfortable beds and bedding. The location is amazing, close by to everything.
