Exceptionally friendly, food outstanding and room utterly clean. They were so happy and excited about my 15month old baby and made sure he was comfortable as well. Ryokan and Onsen experience was one of a kind. I wish I could have booked more than one night.

The air-conditioned rooms feature a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags. The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer and an air purifier is provided in each room. Guests can choose to stay in traditional rooms with tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding or in rooms with Western beds and carpeted floors.

Ranzan Ryokan is a 10-minute walk from Tenryu-ji Temple and a 20-minute public bus ride from Daikaku-ji Temple. JR Kyoto Train Station is a 30-minute train ride away.

Calming and elegant property in a great location. The traditional, 14 mat tatami suite was gorgeous and almost too spacious for two people (can fit up to 6). Futon beds are put away during the day for extra space and set up on the floor during dinner. Comfortable for those who sleep on their backs, but side sleepers may prefer a Western style room. Breakfast and dinner were included in our rate and were delicious, and a bit of a mystery as we don’t speak or read Japanese. Many small, lovely courses served as a set menu. Subtle flavors. At breakfast, don’t miss the Kobe coffee - rocket fuel in a tiny cup! The Onsen was a relaxing luxury, a great way to unwind before dinner. Do as the locals do and enjoy the comfy spa-wear in your room for the bath house and around the property. Service was excellent: we had dropped off our bags in the morning, and they were in our suite at arrival. When we couldn’t figure out how to turn up the heat, someone came up immediately. (The dial labeled “Air Conditioning” = heat.) The front desk kindly made lunch reservations for us at a hard-to-book restaurant.

The air-conditioned rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. Each comes with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a safety deposit box. Japanese Yukata robes are provided for all guests. Some rooms have a private open-air bath.

Stunning views from the private onsen attached to the room courtyard, you can hear the river at night and see the cherry blossoms and mountains from the tub. A separate bathing tub inside the unit allows you to open the door fully and experience the same sights and sounds. There is a room service to clean, make the beds, restock the fridge, tea, towels, and provide clean yakatas. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, and I felt taken care of. The food service was undoubtedly a top highlight to my stay, aside from the serene environment.

Beautiful ryokan and location; right next to Togetsukyo bridge and the Arashiyama Monkey Park. The staff were wonderful and were kind enough to make a dinner reservation for us at a nearby restaurant. We also rented the private sentou/onsen which was great for couples and people with tattoos.

I loved this Ryokan - it was a little far from town but that is what we were wanting. It was so beautiful and a great experience for Japanese culture. I loved experiencing the traditional breakfast. The tea and treat you get at the start was also super fun. The private onsen was amazing and great for people with tattoos

Most of the property is beautiful, the traditional rooms were really pretty. The private onsen was spectacular, we really enjoyed it. The amenities in the rooms and bedding were great. The shuttle service from and to the train station was highly appreciated.

Everything was amazing. The staff, the baths, the food, and the Ryokan were beautiful. I love how the public baths were open for use all night until 10 am. It was so peaceful and nice to have a late night soak in the open-air baths and just enjoy the night.

The outdoor onsen was quite pleasant. It was just us when we went to the onsen so in a way it was like our own private onsen. The futon was very comfortable. The shampoo was really nice smelling and the experience when we were waiting for our rooms to be made was pleasant.

It looks new and modern but they found the way to keep the tradition japanese atmosphere inside the hotel. There fountains with koi, zen gardens, kabuki mask on the walls illuminated by traditional japanese lamps. The tatami rooms have everything you can ask for a complete experience in a ryokan, in particular if you get the one with the private bath. Food is simply delicious.
