Some staffs spoke english, which was a good bonus. There was a shuttle service, which was really appreciated. The communication was perfect.

One of the best onsen experiences I’ve had. Location was great, up in the mountains with gorgeous scenery from window and bath. Staff were exceptional. They were very welcoming and helpful. Picked us up from and to Minakami station. Did very well to accommodate and communicate with us even though we didn’t speak Japanese. Food was beyond amazing, very fresh and high quality. Room was very spacious with comfy beds and private bathroom. Overall amazing experience down to every aspect. Will gladly stay again!

We're so glad we decided to stay here -- we absolutely loved the food, the staff, and all of the little details of our room. We were pretty frazzled after 4 days in Tokyo, but we emerged from Bettei Senjyuan completely relaxed and ready for the next leg of our journey.

Love this property. It’s more on the traditional side but the room was large and the onsens were amazing. The highlight for me was the food. Highly recommend opting in to include the half board. The food was all home made and so good. It felt never ending as they give you around ~13 different types of food. The onsens change for male/female per specific time but I usually had them all to myself which was nice. The hotel is on the smaller side but definitely worth the price. It was beautiful when it snowed! It’s a ~15 min walk from Minakami station and a free shuttle back. You can also reach out to them before to request pickup.

The hotel make travel to the remote area easy for people coming by train, and arranging a spot on their free mini bus was easy beforehand. The food was lovely, and the staff were all incredibly kind, explaining how the outside onsen work. My partner is also over 6ft, and there were yukata and slippers that worked for him - he just had to remember to duck :)!

Beautiful surrounding, like an anime fairytale! Pretty yukatas! Nice room with good view and warm tatami floor! The futon was warm and the blanket super fluffy!! The gift shop clerk was so nice and helpful, helped me to buy the right size yukata and color! Simple explanation from station to shuttlebus by photos and also good detailed explanation of facility at check-in.

You sleep on futons on the floor and with the waterfall in the background I slept like a log. The authentic Japanese banquet was delicious and staff were all super friendly. the hot springs pools were beyond what I expected and at night it was like a fairyland. The staff were super nice and accomodating and the onsen were amazing! I had some of the best sleep I ever had here, love the futon. There was an amazing shakuhachi performance and I will keep my stay here in my heart forever.

In terms of hospitality, the staff were especially accommodating - they even ferried us to local train station from door to door. futon beds were thick and comfortable, amenities were also plentiful and they were more than willing to provide extra at your request. One of the most value for money experiences :)

The two bigger onsens in the ryokan were both quite distinguished and memorable, so I recommend trying it out. The water of the signature onsen comes naturally from the ground and you can feel the heat and bubbles coming from the stone floor directly, which is a unique experience. Food and service are also of high quality.
