All rooms all soundproof and air-conditioned, and fitted with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and an attached bathroom. we were very enjoyed to stay at this hotel and enjoyed the foods.

Guests can also enjoy the public indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and relax with a massage. A free shuttle is available from JR Takatsuki Train Station, which is a 15-minute drive away. Located in Hikone, within less than 1 km of Hikone Castle and 7.2 km of Maibara Station, Honmachi Juku provides accommodation with a garden and free WiFi as well as free private parking for guests who drive. This 2-star ryokan offers a shared lounge. The ryokan features family rooms. The host Natsuhara-san really went above and beyond for me, he is very kind. The cleaning ladies who come in the morning are also very kind and we did our best to communicate through the language barrier. Overall I had a great time! It's very close to Hikone Castle and in the historical town area so it's easy to see the attractions.

Guests can choose to stay in rooms with Western-style beds or in rooms with Japanese futon bedding and tatami (woven-straw) floors. Guests can watch international programmes on a flat-screen TV (BBC World, Phoenix InfoNews Channel, TVBS and YTN). The en suite bathroom comes with a hairdryer and slippers. We loved the bath on our balcony and the traditional Japanese style room. There was a lovely garden and terrace and the staff were very welcoming. The buffet breakfast was a wonderful way to finish our stay.

The Japanese-style rooms at Ryokan Tobaya feature futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. Facilities for making green tea are included, and bathrooms and toilets are shared. Rooms have a traditional decor with shoji paper screens and floor cushions. The building looked very authentic and the staff was really helpful. I enjoyed the room and it was quiet. Maybe I should have taken the breakfast option.

The Japanese-style rooms have tatami (woven-straw) flooring with modern furnishings and futon bedding. Each room features a private bathroom with a bathtub made of Cypress wood, filled with hot water from the local hot spring. What’s not to like… we had the best room in the ryokan, super spacious room, had a huge bathroom, shower and a private open air onsen. We had a living room and a bedroom, the space we had was probably bigger than our apartment back home! Dinner and breakfast was beautifully presented, I literally was so relaxed I lost myself there. Wish I booked it for more than one night!

Guests at the ryokan will be able to enjoy activities in and around Takashima, like fishing. Very close to station, in a quiet village. We arrived there by our bike and was allowed to store our bike inside guest house in a storage place near entrance. Breakfast was delicious and full, traditional Japanese style. Though owner is quiet, he is helpful, answer email promptly. He gave me a paper box when I asked for my personal use. There is a kettle for boiling water, good for me as I like to drink hot water. There is a sink in balcony, so simple washing and brushing teeth can be done in room. A warm reminder to future guests: there are a few interestingly looking restaurants near by, but all need reservations before hand. We can't try. Do book.

Set 46 km from Sanzen-in Temple, Marumo Ryokan offers 1-star accommodation in Takashima and features a garden. A public bath is available for guests. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Staff were exceptional and breakfast was authentic Japanese experience.

Located in Hikone, Kiyotaki Ryokan offers Japanese-style accommodations, Japanese home-style cooking and free Wi-Fi, a 20-minute walk from national treasure Hikone Castle. It’s a 12-minute drive from the Sawayama Castle remains. Drinks vending machines are on-site, and free parking is available upon reservation. This was an amazing stay! The staff was super friendly and we managed to communicate in English (with a little help from google) Breakfast and dinner were very good and not too expensive (1100¥ breakfast, 2200¥ dinner) The bathroom is shared with a sento feel to it which makes it great. Bedding is very comfortable and the kimono they offer look dope! Would 100% come back
