The ultimate Japanese experience! Beautiful old village. The staff were really accommodating and gave us good advice regarding the walks in the area, and the availability of local buses. We walked along the Nakasendo trail to Tsumago on the day of our arrival, and then to Ochiaijuku along the wonderful Ochiai stone path on our way back to Nakatsugawa. We had booked dinner in Magome Chaya as everything in the village closes at 5 pm, and this turned out to be a very varied and copious Japanese meal.

The hotel looks like a beautiful little village for preservation. We slept in a small house that is over 150 years old. The staff is lovely, always looking for ways to help. Dinner and breakfast were works of art.

Loved the atmosphere of the village and the inn. The owners speak English, which is lovely. The rooms are good, and the futons are nice to sleep on (mind you, they are on the ground, so some ppl might have trouble getting down and up) you can reserve private bath time to enjoy the warm bath and the dinner and breakfast are delicious.

The guesthouse is right in the middle of the village, so it's a pretty sight. The meals were copious. If you ask for a vegetarian option in advance, they can prepare it for you (but it will be the same for each dinner). The staff was always present, smiling and helpful. They even let us eat later than scheduled because of a train problem. The traditional Japanese room is big and comfortable.

The traditional building gives a real feeling of being in Japan and nowhere else in the world! The onsen bath was precious. The traditional Japanese fantastic dinner! (And breakfast). The bus stop is only 300m away, the bus are punctual and reliable. The near "Cafe Kappe" (150m) offers the best terrasse in the village! The staff was very hospitable!

Our host Keiko met our bus in the village and drove us to the guest house. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, beautifully prepared and presented. The guest house was very quiet & comfortable, Keiko super welcoming and generous. She handed us a bear bell when we set off for our walk on the Nakesendo trail to Tsumago-juku and had prepared a hot soaker bath with citrus for our return. Delightful!
