Johnson picked me up from the bus stand free of charge, arranged a nice off the beaten track canoe tour through the backwaters, and helped me rent a scooter. He upgraded my reservation to a nicer room for free since he had the availability. Johnson is kind and very helpful. The rooms are large and clean and the homestay was great. “Cannot thank Daniella, Rajith, Jackson and the other staff enough for their kindness and hospitality during our stay at Alleppey Beach Garden. They were truly amazing. We arrived in the middle of the night to a warm welcome, a tranquil setting and a comfortable bed. The hotel is wonderful. Right on the beach, a short walk to the centre of Alleppey beach and some great little restaurants, and a short tuk tuk ride away from town. Each room is it's own little bungalow, complete with veranda. There are also hammocks, loungers and a swing chair if you want to while away a few hours reading. The grounds and gardens are also beautifully maintained. Breakfast varied day to day, but was always great whether it was an omelette, a fruit platter, or traditional home-made Indian fare. It is also well worth eating at the property a few times whilst your there as the on site cook makes some lovely dishes. The owners are so easy to talk to and ready with any information, tips or advice you may need. You can really tell how much Daniella has poured her heart and soul into the place, and this is reflected in her desire for all her guests to have a fantastic experience in Kerala. Jackson came with us to help negotiate and make sure we got the right price for our boat trip, restaurant recommendations were bang on and Rajith helped us with our onward train to Madurai. We really want to thank the Alleppey Beach Garden for going way above and beyond in allowing us to hang around and wait for our train. It left past midnight, and they were very accommodating in letting us rest and stay for a few drinks before helping us to the station with our bags.”

“The staff at Our Land went above and beyond our expectations. We felt instantly at home. On arrival we were taken to our treehouse via the canoe and it wasn't before long that we were delivered some water - this was a lovely little touch. On entering the room we were greeted by lovely cool, fresh air (after travelling this is exactly what we needed) and also a beautiful, calm spa like smell. It remained in the room for the rest of our stay... it was so relaxing. The list is endless of all the things we love about this place but here are a few: the tours on the canoe, the walk through the paddy fields at sunset, the amazing food, the amazing amount of food, the great chai, the relaxing spa treatment room, best ever foot massage, morning walk through the village, experiencing village life, bird watching, knowledgeable guide, friendly staff, comfy pillows and bed and extremely clean and fresh sheets. Oh and so much more. They also have a house boat for rental too. We had a look around and it is at the same high standard as all of the rooms at Our Land. We wished we had time to stay on their houseboat but we will save that for next time.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Varick Villas. We were welcomed into the family and were really made to feel 'at home'. Our stay marked the end of a brilliant month travelling around India and this was - without doubt - the very best homestay we had been to. A spacious spotlessly clean bedroom, a clothes drier outside to hang washing, delicious Kerelan breakfasts and friendly hosts who helped organise our trip on the backwaters plus giving excellent advice on local beaches etc. We were really sorry to leave. Colonel Nair took us for an early morning bird watching walk around the local paddy fields which proved to be a real highlight of our stay in Alleppey. Varick Villas is a beautiful complex and it was a real joy being shown round the garden and learning the names of all the many and varied flowers and plants. We felt very privileged to stay here - thank you.”

“The host was very friendly and genuine. Its not always easy to tell if host's in india have your best interests at heart, but this guy sure did. He's very friendly and positive, welcoming too. They have a great roof top, with a bbq and beers in the evening. A nice social gathering but you can equally go up and just read a book there. He convinced us to do a cheaper, shorter canoe trip instead of the house boats. Which actually ended up being way better, we realised when we were on the water that spending all that money and a whole night out on the backwaters would have been a waste. Once you see it for a few hours its kind of enough, even though its really beautiful.”

“This was by far our MOST FAVORITE place to stay in India because of this family! We felt comfortable from the moment we arrived and decided to extend our stay several days! Not only was the place comfortable, cute, super clean, AND CHARMING but our hosts went out of their way to make recommendations and tours for us and best of all, they treated us like family! They're our new friends! We LOVED taking the house bicycles to explore this mellow and beautiful town and end up at a great beach. Biking in India was crazy and fun!! The next day a canoe picked us up right in front of the home stay for a sunrise row to a sweet village!! Incredibly beautiful and wonderful to have a window into village life! Bijou took time to take us to an Ayurvedic family he knew to learn about plants used (my hobby), then to a gorgeous beach, a coir museum, and a marshal arts expo (we missed this due to electrical issues), and a great Hindu festival with an elephant and performing costumed art. I felt like a friend, not a client. Arsha was also fabulous and welcoming. She too, treated us like family with jokes, friendship and conversation. We also went to a great Ayurvedic massage, again, bijou's recommendation. Arsha made us tea on arrival and we felt loved and taken care of our whole time! Bonus, we LOVED meeting other travelers there too, most extended their stays too. GREAT PLACE! AMAZING PEOPLE! Charming location. I'd recommend this as my top place to stay and enjoy India.”

It's located in a one of the quietest area of Alleppey, overlooking the socind largest lake in asia, the Vembanad Lake. So relaxing, so serene. We can't wait to go back. “The hotel, which is actually called AJ Park Hotel, is clean, bright, comfortable and well run. Manager Mr Martin Mathen was at hand virtually all the time to lend a hand when the place got too busy with local package tourists. He was really helpful in arranging for our backwater boat ride and also our onward transport from Alleppey. The hotel restaurant was good too and reasonably priced, which was very convenient when we didn't feel like trawling the rather messy and chaotic streets of Alleppey for food.”
