“Excellent location, though you need to know which railway station to get off, (not the Mitsushima one), Easy access to the island and the cruise departure point. The best point was the food - breakfast and dinner was excellent.”

Resembling a Balinese resort, the Breezbay Seaside Resort in Matsushima offers massages, beauty treatments and tropical room decorations.
“This hotel is a surprise to me considering the price it takes. Our room has a view of courtyard, which is delicately decorated. Much better than I have imagined. Although the hotel appears near to the Matsushima-kaigan Station on the map, guests have to climb up to the hotel along the hill road. But the shuttle bus solves all the puzzle and staffs are very enthusiastic.”

Located on a hilltop, Petit Hotel Bistro Abalon boasts sweeping views of the ocean and Matsushima Islands, renowned as one of the Three Views of Japan.
“This hotel is so excellent! So helpful staff members! The VIEW from the Ocean view room is something so spectacular!!! The dinner - order it previous evening. So amazing flavors and they found us all the names of the dishes in English (so we can Google later on some more...) We were worried about location, but it was with very slow walking only 10 minutes to village and 15 minutes back up hill - and we are not sport people From 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. you can have your private hot bath with your own companion - two baths with 50 minutes maximum time (=enough)”

A 5-minute drive from Matsushima Island, Hotel Urashima-so features a 24-hour public bath as well as baths for private use.
“We felt welcome from the minute we arrived as my name was beautifully scribed on granite in the porch way. Very kind staff who advised us which island cruise to take and told us the train times. It was no problem for us to leave our luggage and pick it up after spending most of the day in Matsushima. We have a JR pass so hopping on and off trains is not a problem. The food was amazing: lots of fresh fish and seafood. I had never had raw prawns before,so a little food challenge when in another country always adds to the experience. Lots of little carefully chosen porcelain and other fired clay and wooden and metal vessels containing carefully prepared and arranged ingredients. And all such good value. On arrival we were given both a kettle for tea making and iced water in a thermos; and nashi biscuits. Yukata and jackets were provided and all the guests wore them to dinner. The other guests were Japanese but the friendly atmosphere of this hotel meant that we all greeted each other. Very little English is spoken by the staff, but they have pretty good intuition as to what I meant. My son has some ability with the Japanese language so he was able to be chatty. A very warm welcoming hotel, and a memorable stay.”
