This recently became a reservation based experience but the basic self guided walk through is still free. I didnt know exactly when we would be in the area and was glad to see they have a welcome area set up out front, so I didnt have to reserve our slot on my phone, and we got right in. There is a lot of history here and beautiful grounds, but it is way smaller than most people expect. It is still a must see.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

If you actually want a picture of the Alamo or yourself with the Alamo, go early in the morning - it's deserted before 9am. Otherwise there will be crowds on crowds on crowds, especially in the summer.

Take your time at the Alamo.
Take your time at the Alamo. It's a special place for special reasons. Be sure to talk to the guides you see around. They are a mountain of information for the Alamo and for other places in San Antonio. I have to say the video had me shedding tears and the monument outside the front of the Alamo told the story. It's a beautiful place and I would love to return there one day.

If you don't mind not seeing the inside of the church, avoid the long line and enter through the open space in the walls just to the left of the church. It's easier to get a picture in front of the Alamo at night when it's more of a park for locals and the shrine has closed

We enjoyed the information regarding the Alamo, etc. But was disappointed in the fact that they had taken out most of the artifacts for restoration. Understand, but still disappointed in not being able to see the pieces themselves.
