Arrived at Night with a Taxi and the address in Google Maps wasn’t clear. Was difficult to find. I think i had received instructions via email But couldn’t find them in the Moment. Make sure to pay attention to That if you plan to arrive at Night by Taxi! No kitchen facilities available for guests or common area to stay indoors at night.

Unique experience felt like staying in a castle. Increible view, walking down the stairs with a trolley wasn’t an issue, took us 10 minutes to reach the old town by foot.

Beautiful views. Have to be able to do walking with luggage. Luckily the lift in the art museum was wonderful once we knew the details.

Hostel can be more particular about how to get to hostel in their listing, it’s consumes lot of time and energy (and money) to get to the hostel. It has only one set of washrooms

A safe and covered place for bicycles would be nice.

The location is real outstanding on Mönchsberg with its view in Salzburg. Friendly staff and all you need. If you don't want to walk up the hill you can use the Mönchsbergaufzug (4,20 € up and down) which leads direktly into the Museum der Moderne. An ideal place to start or end the Alpe Adria Trail.

Low monetary cost, high physical activity cost, clean bed, gorgeous views

The address was incorrect, which lead me to an extreme back way that made the treacherous journey up the cliff even more difficult with my backpack. Once I learned the better route it was easier, but the gorgeous views do not come cheap--the hike up the cliff is no joke, I am an active 22 y/o and never failed to be winded & dripping in sweat no matter how slow I took it (but again, the view is gorgeous). Lastly for the walk, one night I decided to walk the town and I was walking back after dark/dusk--I DO NOT recommend doing this, although the stairwell is somewhat lit, alone it was quite terrifying, and at one point the lights go completely dark and I could not see one foot in front of me (more just advice for the next solo traveler!). As for the room, I was unable to ever get the wifi to work, but luckily I still had service. I was able to use the inside dining space to get work done but was bumped out a little after the restaurant's closing time, which is understandable, just keep in mind you will likely have no space to work at a table (especially since my computer could not get wifi upstairs). A side note that is not a big deal to most, but I don't particularly like having to make my bed when I arrive to an accommodation--especially if it is late as I feel I wake the rest of the room up. I had a wonderful stay, but just a few things to keep in mind. In addition to the gorgeous view of the old town, the back of the "castle" also has a gorgeous view of the mountains and sunset, with a lovely quiet. bench. The only reason I would not stay again is because of the hike up & down, I at times like to rest at the hostel in the late afternoon & go back out for a walk afterwards, and that wasn't really in the cards here but is definitely someones perfect cup of tea.

I thought the views were absolutely spectacular! It was gorgeous & easy access to food & coffee if you choose to eat at the restaurant. I also appreciated the fairly large locker space, and individual access to plug-ins & lights.

The window in our room didn't close firmly. The location might be nice when it comes to the view, but it is hard to get there. We tried to go up with a car, and it was not mentioned that it's only reachable on foot. Staff never replied to our message asking instructions for this.

What you need to consider, is that it is quite a trek to get to the hostel! There are steps but this is not practical for anyone with a suitcase or heavy backpack. There is a lift but this costs a few eiros each way- very expensive when there are 6 of you. Perhaps the hostel could look into having a reduced rate as one of the restaurants does. The rooms are very small and you need to appreciate that it is a restaurant so there is a smell of food very early on. But you forget all of this once you see the view and the staff are very friendly.

Wrongly indicated on Google Maps, OK on Maps.me, it is a nice a view after Google Maps drove you crazy, but damn it's steep, nothing around. As for the dorm, only four beds would be honest and decent. It's like six people in 20 m2, with a narrow and steep -again- staircase.

The view, but it has a price... The surroundings. It's quiet.

Salzburg is a great little city, and this place is great for a night or two!

Uncomfortable pillows, and having to pay for towels!

This place is not for the faint of heart. We are fairly adventurous people, and we only stayed there a couple of nights, so it was pretty great (but we wouldn't have wanted to stay longer!). Pretty sure we were scammed by the taxi driver who drove us from the train station; he kept saying that no driver would be able to find it, and he drove all over the place before finally charging us $40 and dropping us off outside the walls of the old fortress (yes, Stadtalm Naturfreundehaus is actually in an old fortress that overlooks the city). We had to walk the rest of the way with all our luggage. Our room was in a medieval tower, and the view of Salzburg was spectacular. When we left, the manager called us a cab and it pulled right up to the door in less than 10 minutes! There are well-lighted steps down through beautiful woods that we used to get to the city, but supposedly there is also a lift that costs 2.70 one way. Again -- not for the faint of heart! I mean, we're talking 3 or 400 steps. We're walkers, so we enjoyed it. The room itself is very small, and the bed just okay. The pillows were like sacks of leaves, and towels were extra. We'd heard that "in Austria, they charge you for everything." Seems to be the case, but bath towels? Common bathrooms were down the hall, and they were small but immaculate. The breakfast was a cold plate of cheese, ham, and bread -- utterly uninspired, and the refills of the coffee were -- you guessed it -- not free!

We arrived after a Salzburg tour and didn't realise there was no food, or tea/coffee making facilities available or anywhere to purchase food or drinks of any sort. We only had a snack bar with us. There were no staff available and no access to kitchen or lounge available. Check in details were sent late on the day and we didn't have WiFi until we arrived.

We liked the location & the view was amazing. It was warm and cosy. The place was clean and we would recommend it.
