Nothing, loved everything

The location is perfect. The view towards the river amazing. Even thou the building is old, inside is fully renovated. The rooms where new and clean. Loved that they kept the old style elevators, reminded me of my first apartment in NY. Breakfast very good. Staff very friendly and spoke multiple languages.

The fact that in an Executive Room bathroom the space between the bathtub and the wall was not covered, so when you took a shower all the water dripping from the wall got under the bathtub and into the middle of the bathroom. The fact that the 10% discount you get for the hotel restaurant was not applicable on the day of the checkout too. I'm not sure who in the hotel thought this was a good idea, but the reasonable thought would be that the restaurant would like to attract customers, wouldn't it? We were on the fence on where to eat dinner and chose somewhere else for this exact reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The view from the room. The cleanliness. The soundproofing - e.g. we didn't hear a peep from the party on the top floor even though you could loud and clearly hear it from the elevator. The extended parking availability.

As per previous reviews - breakfast could be better

Impressive landmark from previous times that has been renovated. Our suite had an amazing view and jacuzzi. Check in was smooth with very friendly English speaking staff. Also greatly located - few steps from the old town - and river front. Finally, our kids enjoyed the playground and the many playgrounds within walking distance from the hotel.

On weekends is difficult to park your car, as usually there are weddings, so there are a lot of cars till too late. Also breakfast needs better quality.

Hopefully they maintain the hotel well because some items were broken or loose in the bathroom. The breakfast was to Bulgarian and Romanian style. I was missing some croissants or normal bread.

The lack of original mid century desing in the rooms. The original rooms' and bathrooms' interiors were replaced with newer, featureless furniture, losing the charm and initial integrity with the whole architektural idea.

Grand Hotel Riga is a pearl of Eastern European socialistic modernizm. If you love vintage design, it will be a pleasure for you to see the original architekture decorations, as well as the first floor breakfast area. The elevators with the floor counting marker above the door gives a nostalgic thrill :) The hotel is located on Dunav's bank, and has a wonderful river view from the upper floors (there are balconies at the end of every corridor, so even if you stay on a lower floor, you can go with an elevator to the upper floors and enjoy :)). Unfortunately, the original interior of the rooms is gone, but they are still spacious and comfortable, so you can imagine how could it feel to stay there in the comunist era. The breakfast was abundant and wi-fi is very strong. We were staying there on Saturday's night and there was a prom on the ground floor, but it was not heard on the 6th floor. The parking is very spacious.

Wasn't a fan of the dark glitter flecked carpet or the black curtains. But the room was a good size.

The location and view from the room was great. The garden restaurant menu had a lot of choice. Pets can stay in the room.

Carpet could have been cleaner. This old Soviet era hotel is undergoing continuous renovation, so there's construction noise during the daytime. Front desk had no idea what nearby restaurants were open or if there was tourist cruise available. Hotel system was down at checkout and had to wait to pay for my minibar charges. My view is this hotel is a bit overpriced for services rendered.

View of the river is the selling point. Bed was comfortable but pillows were overstuffed and too fat to use for sleeping. Nice big shower separated from the rest of the bathroom.

The room was not as expected, not very clean and quite old looking. There was mold in the bathroom. The bed was very uncomfortable, the mattress was so hard and the pillows were very old, they should be thrown away. I did not manage to sleep very well. We requested a king size bed and we had a twin bed. The lady from the reception mentioned that the hotel is under refurbishment and soon things will improve and I hope I will return after refurbishment :)

The staff was really lovely, I managed to communicate efficiently with the ladies at the reception, they speak english very well. Even though we had to wait an extra 30-40 mins to check in the receptionist explained that the room was not ready and she apologised for the inconvenience. The location of the hotel is amazing, the view from the 9th floor is beautiful. I enjoyed the varied breakfast and there is an option for guests to eat inside or on the terrace. I appreciated the free parking and WiFi.

carpet needed a good clean, mould in coffee machine water container. Shower cubicle and shower fittings have seen better days, mould on tile grout.
