How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

we had a very bad sleep - walls are super thin and we had to listen to neibourghs' laugh, discussions and WC flushes till 2 am.. They did nothing horrible, just a chill, sometimes animated discussion and laugh, no music, so the walls are supposed to cut this level of noise.. I was dead on next day
Interior decor is really nice! Breakfast room is charming and breakfast is very good.

The key to our room did not work. It was just one night so it was bearable, but someone had to come up from reception every time to let us in. They were friendly about it, but should have given us a break on the minibar snacks or something.

Room sizes are small, but it keeps you out in beautiful Geneva!
A beautiful and elegant hotel in an excellent location. Recently renovated, everything looks bright and new. Pristine clean rooms and amazing decorations. Hotel staff is amazing - attentive, customer-oriented and make you feel welcome! Highly recommended. Would definitely come back very soon!

A/C defective.
This place is definitely on the cheap side of Geneva hotels. It's clean, well located, and never beats expectations.

The room is two small to fit two people. I was travelling with my elderly father and booked a twin room. There was very limited space to open your luggage comfortably.
Good location. It’s located in the centre. Most of the attractions are within walking distance. The tram stop just across the street. Very good for short stay.

The room was hot. The airconditioning was either not working or it cannot keep up with the heat of the summer. The heat was unbearable that we sleep with the balcony door open. This resulted in the noise from the street waking us up.
The location was superb. The staff was accommodating in helping us find the right tram/bus to take as we go around Geneva. The area is really great. The supermarket Coop was across the street, the tram and bus stops were like a minute or 2 away. Safe place to stay.

The curtains had some spots and the carpet on the landing looked dirty.
After booking the hotel, I found some poor reviews and expected the worst. However, overall the room, bathroom and linen was clean, though the room and bathroom were small. Location was good- with the tram just a couple of steps from the hotel. I didnt book breakfast. The staff were helpful and pleasant,

The decor is a bit tired and the facilities dated. There was no air conditioning on a warm night.

The hotel is located very centrally. It is clean and provided everything needed for a comfortable stay. It is not a modern hotel but the rooms were nice and the staff very friendly. I have stayed there before and would be happy to do so again.

Hotel Diplomate is clean and comfortable. We were upgraded to a better sized room for a couple. It is on the tram line so easy access to sights of interest. staff were friendly.

The hotel is a bit tired and the light goes out in the lift as you go in which is a bit disconcerting! Rooms are a bit small.
We always stay there when we are in Geneva. Friendly staff 24hr service. Good wifi. Excellent location and as comfortable as you need to be. Very good value for Geneva. Very small parking space, otherwise a very close public carpark (beware low entrance).
