Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Kazakhstanthe host Kai is very friendly. He explained everything in details and we had a really good friendly conversation. He provided Basel Card which can be used for public transports and some discounts might be reached via this card which I found something extraordinary and superb (seems like every city accommodation provide in Switzerland). Now about accommodation. Amazing place to stay, highly recommended. Clean, neat, comfy, warm. You can find literally everything you need. If you need something and you can’t find it then hosts can provide it, they are available via WhatsApp or call. Overall, the best experience and the best hosts, and really good place to stay in Basel.

LithuaniaSmall issues that did not really had an impact on our rating of the property: The coffee machine was acting a bit weird by dropping brand-new capsules down No sockets on one side of the beds and the other side socket is a bit too far for the standard charging cable (1M)
The apartment size was great, you can adjust the heating if needed. The apartment was super clean as well. Fully equipped kitchen including microwave, oven, coffee machine, toaster, and dishwasher. Pretty much everything you would have in your own house. Enough cups, plates, bowls and the rest of the cooking utilities. Wide selection of tea, some coffee options even hot chocolate powder! Comfortable beds, separate bedrooms, and a separate dining area with bench and few chairs.

United KingdomThe bathroom was shared with another room and is directly between the rooms. This meant there was quite a lot of noise with the other room using the bathroom (but very minor point and okay with ear plugs).
Kai was really helpful and spoke excellent English, and it was easy to communicate with him about my arrival time etc. Everything was very clean and the room had all I needed and was bigger than I expected. Seemed good value for Switzerland! Easy to walk into town and also very close to a tram stop for getting to the train station etc.

United Arab EmiratesBasel as a city is a little expensive in general, but that's no fault of my hosts.
The place was comfortable and super clean. Kitchen was incredibly well stocked and Kai was very friendly and helpful. The location is great and very walkable in terms of accessing most places in the city.

PolandThe only very minor thing I would suggest is providing stronger bags for garbage, as they were of, well, garbage quality. ;) They were super thin and delicate and tore really easily.
Very friendly and helpful staff, some nice amenities as well. Good localization (the city centre is easily reachable on foot, not far away from bus to the airport either). Nice choice of tea too!

United Statesabsolutely nothing.
This charming apartment was just perfect for our stay in Basel before a river cruise. it was spotless and had all the perfect amenities. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood. We sat out on the balcony each afternoon and drank wine. the apartment is a quick walk to the tram line into the old town, or it's about a 15 minute easy walk. A transportation card is included, so you just jump on trams or buses without worrying about buying a ticket. The best feature is Kai, who lives in the building and helps manage the apartment. He was amazingly helpful and was available quickly. He helped me figure out why I couldn't open the washer door (I didn't press the button labeled Tur (door)). This was a perfect apartment for our needs.

TurkeyThe location is not close enough to the old city. It is easy to reach by tram but it is almost 20 minutes on foot. Other than that nothing negative.
The room was really big enough. The bed was large. There were beverages such as tea and coffee in the room. I really liked the room. Wifi is good enough.

SpainI just stayed 1 night just for sleeping was I was really happy. Not issue at all and the action and understanding for my flight cancellation on 23rd and being flexible was quite lovely. It says a lot from them.
Esperanza House was extremely kind and understable. I really appreciate what they did. My booking with easyJet was cancel in the last moment two times and it made me feel quite stressed. I straight away contacted the property and explain the situation, asking the petition y if I could pay 1 night instead of 2 nights as planned to stay. Despite my cancellation from Gatwick, I tried to find another alternative to reach to Basel as the accommodation was paid already and I had used my holidays at work. I had to arrive at night to Lyon, then go to Geneve and from there to Basel. A long journey but that was my chance to know Switzerland. The only issue was I would miss 1 night in Basel. I explained to Casa Esperanza and they were happy to help me. They were happy to refund 1 night despite it was in the last minute because of the flight. I extremely appreciate that. I have some friends that they plan to go to Basel as well in winter. Of course, I will recommend them as it generates peace of mind. The room was quite spacious, clean and tidy. The host was very helpful and the accomodation included the transport from airport to Basel. The toilet was as well clean and nice. The location is quite good as well, Wifi worked well in the accomodation. Comparing with the hight cost of living in Switzerland, it was fair price.
