Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRestaurant food, and service not great, very expensive for what it offers , our bedroom room doesn’t have coffee or tea facilities, no hair cap, or complimentary toiletries

SwitzerlandMy son was looking forward to the indoor pool-he had just been cross country skiing, but it was too cold. He stays a couple of hours at our local hotel indoor pool but couldn't stay in there. But I realise that is a matter of opinion. Others probably like the pool because it is not warm. I would still go back, everything else was fantastic. The bar area is so inviting, the staff are lovely and my fish dinner was delicious.

SwitzerlandThe spa/sauna has to be reserved and was fully booked so we could not make use of it. The pool is nice, but too cold to relax in for longer period of time.
The room was very nice with a spacious balcony. Nice restaurant in the hotel where we had lunch and a good breakfast selection.

SwitzerlandIt was quite warm for the season and we had to sleep with the windows open. As the hotel is situated on the main street, there was quite some noise until late at night and early in the morning. Obviously a problem only in summer and only for light sleepers.
Friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant serves very good food. Very centrally located (the village is small, after all). Breakfast buffet had everything one needs

NetherlandsThe restaurant offers standard food (burger and fries style) did not feel i had many fresh options. The swimming pool is decent size and i was lucky to be able to swim alone, however it is in an indoors and stuffy space. For sauna, there is an extra fee.
It is very well situated close to the train station, it offers correct accommodation, with a good view, comfortable bed, excellent shower and it has a pool and an elevator. Reception staff was efficient and helpful. The surrounding area is lovely and the lakes nearby were stunning to see and easy to access. Overall, it is a pretty good accommodation option, but if one is looking for something extra special, either very tranquil off the beaten track or with lots of attention to detail, this might not be it. I was a solo traveler to enjoy a bit of nature in between business meetings, so for me it was ok.

IsraelThe shower in combination with the attic stairs was a bit tight and hard to navigate, with the toilet seat being right outside the shower entrance. The jacuzzi in the outdoor pool didn’t work.
We arrived at the hotel after a long hike from Lautetbrunnen and the hotel was a very nice layover. Our room was very nice, with both a shower and a hot tub in the attic. The bed was comfortable and the balcony was nice. The pool was warm and clean, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good!

NetherlandsThe value for price is not great. However, like many other hotels in the area. The toilet has been cut out from the room area with a thin wood divide. This is not great if you want to use the toilet or shower when someone else is sleeping in the room: too noisy and light comes through the door. The fan inside the bathroom is switched on with the lights, but it goes off after 2 minutes.
Hotel location is great: central in the small village of Kandersteg and at walking distance from the trail/lift to the nearby lake. The room is nice, recently renovated with a spacious balcony overlooking the mountains. It has a mini lounge corner with a small couch and minibar right next to the large window.

PolandCommunication with the crew needs improvement. Also, our neighbours at 11pm started using jacuzzi on the balcony - the noise of the jacuzzi and mechanism of ejecting it was horrible, especially at night, when You want to sleep and get up really early... maybe it should be stated clearly by the hotel that those kind amenities can not be used after 10 pm/at night
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION :) the best part - close to klettersteig, supermarket just the opposite of the hotel, bankomat few steps away, and views... delightful

IsraelThis review is regarding the restaurant, the owner is rude and unpleasant. We had dinner, the food was good but the whole experience wasn’t as much. Recommend the hotel only, several food options around Kandersteg. In addition, the reception is not working past 7pm, take this into consideration on arrival.
The hotel is terrific, the first time the rooms look better than as advertised.

United StatesIf I had to nitpick I would like to see a hot water maker in the rooms and the bacon to be a little more crispy for the buffet in the morning. Which over was very good in my opinion.
I was impressed with the small single room that I had. The balcony was an added bonus enjoyed the views. The front desk and restaurant staff were very helpful and courteous. Great location only a 5 min walk to the train station and a 15 min walk to the cable car to head up to Oeschinen Lake.

United KingdomI don't think it makes sense to require guests to privately book the spa area, charging them 20 CHF extra for one hour. I was really looking forward to the spa experience, but obviously decided to refrain from it under these conditions (and use the spa of another hotel). Why not, for example, increasing the room price by 10-15 CHF by night and keeping the spa area open for all guests to use freely between, say, 3 and 9pm? Also, some of the restaurant staff seemed rather grumpy. One night, I was hardly allowed into the restaurant at 8:10pm, even though the kitchen was supposed to be open until 8:30pm and the restaurant until 9:30pm. Then I was basically asked to leave the hotel bar at 9:40pm because staff wanted to go home. On two evenings, what seemed to be the owner and a staff member had rather contentious arguments (incl. about whether some staff members were unduly consuming drinks from the hotel bar) in front of me, while I was sitting in the bar - just created a somewhat strange atmosphere. I understand it was out of the main season, but still, it just didn't seem like all staff members were ready to welcome guests and provide them with the holiday experience that the hotel has the potential for...
Nice room, and the sliding bathtub is of course absolutely spectacular. This alone was worth the stay. Also enjoyed the heated indoor swimming pool.

United KingdomThe breakfast was average, with less generous top ups if you were coming nearer the end of breakfast!
Such a lovely hotel with a very friendly and helpful receptionist, we were impressed with the room too (receiving an upgrade) and the beds were super comfy with an amazing bath - thank you! The location is perfect, with parking right outside, and we were able to walk to goldalas to commence our daily walks. Highly recommend because of the location.
