Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt's right next to train station. They let me check in early and leave my bag there after checking out. The guy is very friendly and accommodating. The room key was like Grand Budapest Hotel.

South AfricaAs it's an old building, you hear a lot of creaking and noise from surrounding rooms, but the building adds to the charm of this little hotel.
Food was delicious. Location convenient as it's directly opposite train station.

United KingdomBooking confirmation said check in 16.00 but subsequent message said 17.00. Not a problem for me, I arrived at 16.30, but consistency would be useful. Lighting in room quite dim, some heating but still rather chilly. All just minor points.
Location: perfect for the train station (as the name implies!), on the spectacular Montreux to Interlaken route. This is a simple and quite basic hotel, but definitely appealing for its faded charm, this is a classic “French style” Hotel de la Gare. The room was adequate for my needs (an overnight stop). The owner cooked a three course meal for me, despite me being the only person staying, (needs booking previous day, so prior to arrival), CHF 25, a good meal. Quiet as no one else there, but I can imagine the bar/restaurant being a good ambience with more people. Good buffet breakfast, CHF 7.

SingaporeSolo room was a bit small, but you get what you pay for. Heating was at the window, but the corridors were always freezing at night, which could be felt in the room itself.
Breathtaking views, pleasant environment, wonderful staff, comfortable bed, generally clean rooms, very quiet. Breakfast was also very pleasant and wholesome, as well as affordable. Dinner was very filling and warm. Location was perfect and convenient, with easy access to the train.

United KingdomPrices in Switzerland are always a shock, as was the price here, but for a good location in Switzerland to be expected.
The location is superb, right next to the train station surrounded by beautiful countryside. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was fine. The breakfast was a buffet plenty of delicious cheeses, croissant, yoghurt, and good coffee. Very good playroom for guests and their children with table football.

United KingdomA TV in the room would have been useful
When it comes to location, the Hotel de la Gare could hardly be closer to the Gare in question, Montbovon. It is literally just across the road and has served the village, amazingly, since 1669, long before the super-efficient and comfortable Swiss electric trains served the station. Whilst the hotel building is large and looks impressively-built, in early July it was quite quiet as was Montbovon itself - a small place with few facilities. There is a local shop (cheese being their speciality) a church, a school, the staion, this hotel and a lovely lake which is a pleasant hour-long walk. So there is no restaurant or bar although these can be found in the nearby villages accessible via the regular train service. The hotel will provide an evening meal (it needs to be booked in advance) and breakfast is simple but good and, for Switzerland, excellent value at €7. Don't expect sophisticated living here - the room I had was simply furnished (with no tv and the shared use of the bathroom/toilet with a sink in the room) and, as it was a corner room, had a direct view over the station and towards the village. Somewhat bizarrely, for quite a distance the train shares the road with the cars! For the price - and again, for Switzerland, a very affordable price - it is definitely good for a stopover and, I suspect, in winter is used for longer stays when the area is covered in snow and seasonal activities take place.

NetherlandsIt's no 5 star, multiple hundred francs per night stay, and you shouldn't expect that? No complaints!
Directly at the train station. Friendly staff that's really making the best of the hotel. Great view from the balcony. Breakfast is reasonably priced. Room cleaned even during the stay.

NetherlandsAs I travelled alone I would have liked the possibility of having walking tours or cycling tours to meet other people. There are no restaurants in the area in the evening or other places to go to to meet other people. Best to go in group

United KingdomNothing all good.
The location is ideal for onward travel for daily visits to Gruyere and Gstaad by the Swiss Rail service . The breakfast was excellent especially the home made bread and jams and the evening 3 course meal and coffee is great value for 25 francs.. Its a family run hotel and the owners are very friendly and welcoming . The rooms are simple and traditional and reflect the history of the hotel which has been hosting guests since the 17th century .

United KingdomOnly one thing really: The Internet access was intermittent while reception was great, connectivity to a number of news and government websites was interrupted by a security warning that I would not observe on the mobile network.
Location is great to access several ski resorts in case of changing weather. Staff is very friendly and went the extra mile to help us explore the area having fun. The converted train station has a great feel and it was very clean. We enjoyed the lounge on the ground floor a lot, relaxing after an fun day on the snow.
