Everything else: No running water in spite of the availability of a booster pump. The standby genset was never switched on during power outages. There was blackout during the second night because of insufficient credit in the prepaid electricity meter. Access to the property could not be worse. Check-in was a challenge. We arrived very late and the night watchman who only showed up long after we had been ringing the bell and banging at the gate wouldn't let us in even after we'd shown him the key that we'd arranged to be collected prior to our arrival. We had to call the host who confessed to have forgotten to alert the guard before being let into the compound. There was no cooking gas, no internet, no toilet soap, scant toilet paper and no dishwashing liquid. There were lots of mosquitoes because the property is in a rundown area near the Etoudi Market and the window screens were badly torn. The beddings were soiled and the guest toilet bowl leaked water unto the floor upon flushing. Throughout our stay, we saw no responsible person around and we had to leave the key with another guest upon departure. To add insult to injury, the host tried to wangle a 50% surcharge on us for using the second bedroom. Overall, the apartment was dirty and had an air of neglect.
