The Vine Hotel

Positive section of review
Property is very well located near the centre of Funchal, much nearer than most of the other 4/5 star hotels in the hotel zone which are both further away and typical up a few steep hills. It had excellent amenities such as great restaurant, pool, spa treatments and attentive staff. Breakfast buffet was top notch. We were also upgraded to a Junior Suite. The hotel itself backs onto a shopping centre, which proved extremely useful for picking up last minute holiday bits (sun cream, socks, pharmacy etc)

Some parts of the hotel were showing their age; bed creaking, USB ports not working. But very minor as we had a great week and slept well. Our room sadly didn’t face the sea, but given the very hot weather this wasn’t an issue.

Great setting by the river & lovely restaurant nearby.. on tram route 1, outside the door. Staff were really pleasant and helpful at all times.Great coffee in the room. We had view of the river & big leafy tree outside our window.

The location was excellent although it was fog-bound while we’re there, so had no views. The breakfast was actually very good. There is nothing else that I can say that I specifically liked

The room was very cold - it was snowing outside and the a/c system wasn’t working. After several complaints, management gave me an electric heater. The buffet dinner was OK, but only just - some of the food was poor and several dishes ran out.

the property looked dirty, there was mold on the bathroom ceiling and the towels (which were so small they were basically hand towels) were so old and used they should have been thrown away.

We booked a place for the car in advance but we got IT only after few days. We had HB meal and during dinner we had to pay extra money even for the glass of water. There were no variety of food and IT was awful.
