Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe noise
Good value for accomodations in Santiago, though the noise from the streets carried into the hotel. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond to help us as we needed to sort out logistics in advance of starting the camino.

United Kingdomloose carpet on the stairs were dangerous with no one on reception throughout our stay to inform. NEEDS urgent attention, Cold water for the shower on the first morning. While in the bar water came through the ceiling. No breakfast available which had been offered for 8 euro extras. The suggested coffee shop was closed at 9.30 am

United KingdomThere was no one at reception throughout our stay. No indication as to where to leave the key when leaving the property. The booking indicated that breakfast was 8 euro but there was no restaurant; the one indicated was not open when we checked for breakfast at 9.30 am. On the second evening we called into the bar and water started to come through the ceiling! NEEDING URGENT ATTENTION: the stair carpet to the first floor was not secure and could cause a serious accident. There was no one available to report our concerns. Room heater was no working. On arrival the guy in the bar checked us in and was very friendly.

AustraliaThe pictures look great and are the same but the room is in much need of renovation and a good clean. The bathroom is very lacking in presentation and needs work, and the cistern didnt work properly. The room was also cold with only bar heater working. Overall not happy with the room especially after paying extra to upgrade the room before arriving.

United KingdomThe rooms are ok, but it would have been nice to have a kettle to have a cup of tea or coffee in the morning or at night. Not having a receptionist at least during daytime hours was unexpected as well. No everybody has the tools to call a Spanish phone number in case they need to.
The location is perfect. It is close to the Cathedral and all historic places. But it is also close to the most modern area of Santiago. Staff at the hotel was super friendly and helpful. Before our arrival, all the questions raised by email were responded super quickly and efficiently.

United KingdomHow would you like to spend €150/night for the pleasure of sitting on the toilet in full view of pilgrims dining across the street? At Hotel Gastronómico Arco de Mazarelos you can do that and much more. For instance you can bask in the comfort of a bed where the headboard is secured to neither the bed frame nor the wall, but simply wedged between them. You can enjoy the feeling of utter sparseness while experiencing the clammy sensation of a stone building with no air conditioning in the peak of summer. There are two heaters in the room (understandable given the winter temperatures) but no aircon. The shower is fine, with nice pressure and temperature, but beware of the bidet partly obstructing the way out of it. As you make your way to your room, beware of the threadbare carpet on the stairs. The carpet is old and dirty, giving the hotel an unpleasant smell. The term “gastronómico” in the hotel name refers to the existence of a tapas bar downstairs but is a misnomer since the hotel does not offer breakfast. We tried to make use of the hotel’s gastronomy but the menu was thrown at us with such disregard (the service was slow and grudging) that we decided to get up and try somewhere else. Finally, the same key that opens the front door of the hotel opens the door to your room.
Great location, the shower was ok
