Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainReally appriciated the fact that the heating was on during evenings, cause many hostels do not put it on ( i mean, even the minimum, having energy savings on mind of course). Mercadona and some nice bars are close, center is 20min walking distance, and it is quite enjoyable walk

GreeceChairs in the common area, Location (super noisy big road), not able to let fresh air in the room. Also, a very rude female fellow guest who replied to my 4year old son super heartbreaking.
Staff member very positive and very nice. Decoration inside was lovely. After a long journey and after finding ourselves to an area full of constructions, we entered a very sweet and small hostel. The room was very very basic and the worse thing was that we weren’t able to open any window for fresh air. It is located in front of the busy main road, so lots of noise and pollution. No options for sitting outdoors. The chairs inside in the common area were uncomfortable. It would be more fair if this hostel was cheaper. Lots. The area wasn’t the best, yet, a solution which is ok for solo travelers and the lady staff member was brilliant. Herbal teas available which was cool. No decaf coffee as an option but a good brand free coffe for coffee drinkers.

SpainNo lights in the individual beds which wasn’t a problem for me because I was in an other empty room but is helpful to have a light while in your own space without bothering roommates.
Stayed the night in Bilbao as someone just passing through. The hostel is easy to get to from the airport which was perfect for my plans, clean, quiet and very comfortable. I got in late and left early so I never got to speak face to face with the staff but they reached out via WhatsApp to answer any questions and start the check-in process.

SwitzerlandIt's located a bit far from the city center (about 25 min on foot from Guggenheim), in an industrial area, so the sights around are not the nicest.
The hostel was almost empty when I visited, I ended up being the only guest in the room which made it very convenient and comfortable (not sure if it would be the same when very crowded). The bed was ok. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, the staff was friendly and responded quickly via Whatsapp. There were lockers in the rooms and also in the corridor, with some extra padlocks to borrow. I could leave my luggage in the corridor locker after check out. There was a construction site right in front on the street but there was no noise. There is a nice cafe for breakfast at about 5 min walking distance.

SpainThe doors and the bed were a little noisy and not at the best conditions. The showers could be improved with a little more maintenance.
The best part for me was the location, very close to the center, just 30 mins walking. The neighborhood was quite and peaceful. The facilities were confortable and clean. Excellent deal for price and accommodation.

NetherlandsStaff didn't speak much English in person, only on whatsapp. We worked it out with my little knowledge of Castillian and some gesturing. Some of the other guests were loud and obnoxious, letting their alarm run for 20 minutes straight at 6 AM, and switching on all the overhead fluorescent lighting without any regard for the other guests. And when there is no staff there to run the place nothing can be done about rude antisocial behaviour like that. There is an active construction site right across from the bedroom (all female dorm), starting at 7AM and ending after 10PM at night. Neither of these two things are directly the hostel's fault, but they did kind of ruin my sleep. The beds don't seem to be anchored, or at least they are not very sturdy, because they sway back and forth any time the other person turns. It was a bit scary and woke me up several times.
Staff weren't there most of the time, but were quick to respond in whatsapp. It's located on a big, busy road in a residential area, with a few shops and breakfast places nearby. Metro station at 5 minutes walking, but The Guggenheim museum is only about a 15 minute walk along the river, and from there you can walk further into the city (Casco Viejo, Abando, La Vieja, etc) or take public transportation. The neighborhood is very nice, it's just the road itself that's too loud and busy. The kitchen is good for making coffee or tea (available and free of charge) or heating something up in the microwave, but not much else. The common area is sober but inviting; it has a long table to sit/eat at and a little reading nook. I liked it very much. The blankets were thin, old fleece ones, but warm enough for the time of year. Sheets were clean, pillows were comfortable. Each bed has a separate power outlet and a little shelf, plus an assigned locker in the room. Padlocks are provided free of charge, which was nice as that isn't always the case in hostels. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the hostel was overall, bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms/showers. Staff were flexible with check in times and I was able to store my luggage there after checkout. Overall a good experience.

SpainMy room was next to the street and it was a bit loud and the street lights from outside were quite bright. I was hiking on the Camino and the hostel is nice for leaving town but for arriving you have to walk a lot more and after that hill to get to Bilbao I would have appreciated the hostel to be closer o the center.
The hostel is really cool and has friendly and helpful staff. It was very clean and quiet - not a party hostel :)

United StatesI was under the impression that the kitchen would have a stove or hot plate which it did not. That really limits your cooking options. Also, they offer tea and coffee for guests but there were no coffee filters at the moment so we couldn't really take advantage of that.
When I stayed at the hostel it was not so busy, probably since it was on the outside of the city. That meant that the room, common room, and bathrooms, my friend and I had mostly to ourselves. The space was clean and the rooms were comfy. We ended up staying an extra day to recover a bit as we on the camino currently.

IrelandThe online check-in system was unnecessarily complicated. There were also no staff in the hostel throughout our one night stay. I would have liked to have been greeted or met by a member of staff and really don't like having to do everything online.
Room 5 was perfect for our group of 6 people. The beds were comfortable and the room was airy - i.e. well ventilated with high ceiling. The bathroom and showers were excellent and the kitchen / lounge area was also serviceable and comfortable
