Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesSome older visitors could find the hillside approach a bit of a challenge, though there were many older folks present who had no issues with it.
Carmen de Alcubilla del Caracol is a true Carmen - a lovely converted old manor house with an intimate and secluded oasis of gardens terracing down the hillside quite close to the Alhambra. Tranquil and understatedly elegant it is magical with superb views of the city below and the sierra Madre Mountains beyond. We simply loved it and all the friendly and helpful staff.

United StatesNothing. Just note it is better for people with good mobility as it is on a steep hill and has stairs to get to the rooms.
This is a wonderful little hotel on the hill below the Alhambra with a beautiful garden and views of the city and Sierra Nevada. Our room had a terrace overlooking the mountains. The service is wonderful and very personal - Alejandro (owner/manager) helped us with directions getting to and from the hotel, getting our luggage in and up to the room (no elevators), parking our car, advice about visiting the Alhambra and with recommendations and directions to attractions and restaurants. Breakfast was delicious.

United StatesI cannot think of anything that could have been better. If your main goal is to visit the Alhambra, this is the perfect place--but you must get your tickets well in advance (we bought ours two months ahead) before going to Granada.
I loved the location of the property which was within walking distance of the Alhambra in Granada. The property and the grounds were beautiful. It is obvious this place is loved and well cared for. It was a bit challenging to to the property by a private car with the windy and narrow streets but the directions Alejandro gave us were excellent. When we got close, we called Alejandro and he immediately met us at the car. He helped us park the car in their garage and assisted us with getting our luggage to our room. Alejandro was amazing. He gave us a map of Granada and was very detailed in showing us where to go to get to the Alhambra and places in the city. He told us about all the different modes of transportation to get around without driving. (It is not easy to drive in Granada, so it is best to keep the car parked and walk, use a public bus or taxi which are very affordable.) Granada is a very hilly city with a lot of steps to climb to get back to the property so we got a taxi a couple of times to get back up the hill after a long day of sightseeing. We had a very nice room with a gorgeous view of the city so it was very peaceful and relaxing. The continental breakfast was delicious with fresh juice and great coffee. We really enjoyed staying the Carmen de la Alcubilla del Caracol and hope to return someday. Thank you!

United StatesThroughout Granada there is much to see and experience. It's quite beautiful and memorable top to bottom. hence an issue to think about as there are many vertical stairs / steps and inclines all through the city and the hotel that one must negotiate. So wear your best walking shoes and be ready to experience a demanding workout on your calves and feet at all areas.
This property was so enjoyable and relaxing but the owner (Alejandro) was the special ingredient. Seldom do you have a chance to interact with the owner of a hotel and get to know them a little bit as a person. We were fortunate enough to do that with him during our stay. He was so informative, helpful, funny and engaging on all aspects of Granada (and Spain as well) that his presence made the stay that much more awesome. Thank you Alejandro!. His staff Lorenzo and Conchi were also amazing people and incredible hosts. We loved everything about staying here as the views were amazing and the property was quite accessible to all things needed. Stay here as It will be worth it!

Alejandro is one of the best hosts I have ever encountered. This is not just a simple hotel, but a villa on top of the mountain. Alejandro has poured much love into this space, and you can see many traces of care here. The hotel has different rooms and courtyards, where you can see the entire city. You can even watch the sunrise and sunset while sipping champagne in your room. Alejandro will give you the best recommendations, not only for dining or better routes, but also for this house's history, culture, and story. This place feels like home, and I have had the most enjoyable few days of my trip here. In the future, I will come back to Granada and return to this place, looking forward to meeting Alejandro again.

AustraliaAccommodation was a bit cramped. The host was amazing, very helpful and provided lots of information.
We were 15 minutes walk from the highlight of Granada, Alhambra. Built by the Moors, and was occupied by them for 700 years, finally the town people decided to take back the fortress and fought to regain Alhambra, after which the Moors vacated the palace completely.

Saudi ArabiaThe breakfast could have more variety like olives, honey or jam. They only offer cold hard boiled egg, which not all prefer it would be good to have scrambled egg or omelette.
The location were very close the Alhambra and city center. Both room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The staffs were very helpful with direction and service.

United StatesFacilities are more than adequate, but a bit rustic. As with all Spanish hotels apparently, rock hard mattress.
Location, location, location!! Mere steps from the Alhambra - you cannot ask for much more, but Alejandro and Lorenzo work hard to make your stay amazing. Alejandro gave us a wonderfully detailed introduction to the city and plan for touring the Alhambra, and Lorenzo made us delightful breakfasts each day. A “carmen” is a traditional residential compound and this property offers more of a homestay feeling than a hotel.

AustraliaIt was fabulous!
The most amazing view from the terrace! Great communication and very friendly staff, this was a wonderful place to stay for our time in Granada. We enjoyed the breakfast and the honesty bar. There were beautiful communal spaces - plenty of guides, books and local information if you wanted to deep dive into any recommendations. A steep walk into town, but the views made the stairs worth it. Very easy to access the Alhambra from this hotel.

Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly. Location was great! The only concern was finding it, a little tricky. Directions were good however, it is a bit unclear as to which street you turn into at the circle. Not sure how to make the instructions clearer…..perhaps explaining that there are two roads at the first left….to make sure you take the Left road…?

United KingdomIt wasn't a problem for us, but as the hotel is on the side of a steep hill people with dodgy knees might struggle with coming and going.
A lovely boutique hotel sitting just near the Alhambra. Our room was nice, though we didn't get much use of the terrace on account of the rain. The common area had great views over Granada and the hotel gardens looked like a lovely place to sit on a sunny morning.

United KingdomNothing. It was the most comfortable and relaxed place we have ever stayed - as well as being very well placed.
It was a special and interesting house with brilliant views. We had our own terrace where we could look out over the town and, in particular, watch the amazing sunsets. It was also possible to do this in the hotel's very comfortable lounge which also had the same panoramic views of the city and mountains. It was close to the Alhambra but also easy to get into town. The owner and his staff were exceptional. Always friendly and immensely helpful - always had time for us. It was their attention and interest - and their openness - that made the place stand out from anywhere else we have been.
