Hectic & understaffed check-in. Reception staff under pressure covering a busy bar also. The ladies were lovely, knowledgeable & as efficient as they were able to be. Internet, both free & paid premium was non existent so unable to work whilst there. I knew it was the cheapest option & I s’pose you get what you pay for - internal room with no windows, no daily cleans or restock (Bank Holiday?), but having to beg, borrow & steal milk sachets, tea bags & toilet roll for your 2nd day/night…. Ultimately the hotel is tired & under pressure, as are clearly the staff. Obviously there is a huge influx of overseas tourists, coach parties etc who offer a never ending (& never to return) revenue stream, but I would like to think that their experience in unfamiliar surroundings should be better. Anyway, it is what it is.

Location was good. 20mins walk to Edinburgh Centre.

I stayed for 2 nights and cost 468 pounds. The hotel doesn't provide free internet. They have internet at common place only. It's 2024 already. If you want to work in your room, you have to buy internet (they sell it). It doesn't worth the value of money

Hotel riding coat tails of location in incredibly expensive city with little to no regard for guests

At a price of just under £300, even being significantly cheaper than other available options, it still represented terrible value for money. The 4 p.m. check-in - with a supplement payable to check in earlier - felt unnecessarily cruel to the scores of guests who travelled a long way to get there. Seeing overseas tourists being treated in this way made me feel embarrassed to be British.

The location is good. Additionally, at a price of just under £300 a night it was among the least exorbitantly expensive Edinburgh hotels it was possible to find.

I did not like the selection of the breakfast it was the same day to day. It did not change at all. The room is really noisy. My window faced a road and during nighttime, I just heard the traffic.

I liked the staff they were always nice, they were helpful when I asked something. I like the amounts of elevators there were 3 elevators which reduced the waiting time. I liked the hard bed mattress.

Hotel was old and worn out. Doors would not shut quietly. Decor worn and "tatty". No overhead protection in smoking area during bad wet weather, a large waterproof Umbrella/ Awning would have sufficed. No toilet brush, toilet paper holder loose. Beds too soft.

Breakfast was excellent, considering it was buffet, but empty trays not refilled quick enough , so the breakfast was going cold while you waited. The excellent bar and reception staff were very supportive, friendly, helpful, and nothing was any trouble.

Hotel on its last legs - would only recommend for a one night stay

The hotel is in really bad condition - I have never stayed in a place like this, where there is a smell of damp everywhere, signs of mould/age showing in the walls and carpets, and our room didn't even have a window (but it was the only one available for us). No wifi unless you pay an additional fee, and the room is not serviced each day unless you request and pay extra. I think the dampness in the room made us both sick, as we stayed there 4 nights and felt unwell throughout. We shouldn't have spent 4 nights there.

Staff are kind, showers were nice, you can also store your luggage the day of checking out! One of the cheaper hotels in Edinburgh for sure, but you can see why. Fine for a ONE night stay on a budget.

Britannia hotels tend to be cheaper than other comparable hotels, there is a reason for this. The building itself is run-down and in need of a lick of paint (this has been the case with every Britannia hotel I have stayed at.) Electric lights failed on second night I was there (credit where it’s due this was identified to have been caused by a broken master switch and was fixed very quickly.) I also noticed some sort of water leak or buildup of damp in the carpet by the window (this was on the morning I left the hotel & continued my journey.)

Food was decent enough. Facilities reasonable and bed comfortable. Reasonable location, Haymarket train station is a 10-15 minute walk away

Down at heel hotel. Obviously has lacked any investment for many years and looking extremely tired. Dining hall for breakfast was a windowless, soul less place. Breakfast was ok except fried eggs just left under heat lamps so they'd gone rock hard. Room was tatty.

Having seen that this hotel was recently criticised on local newspapers, I decide to share my experience as well. The staff was very unhelpful. I wasn't able to access my assigned room – one floor below the reception – as there was a problem with its card-operated door lock. It took me half an hour moving up and down with my luggage repeatedly to address the issue. The female receptionist refused to come down with me to check but unreasonably claimed that "the card must work" on the basis of it being shown on their system as "activated". They appeared to have never thought that it could be due to technical fault of an individual door lock. It is not rocket science. Their card-operated door locks are a very tricky type – it requires "swift" insertion and removal at a certain angle in order to unlock. I used to live in an apartment with exactly the same type of lock, which was a nightmare. Most hotels you can find in the UK and across Europe don't use such type of lock. It is possible that this hotel is using it for the sake of saving money or simply resistant to changes. The other issues were that the (1) hot water supply in my room was unstable and I wasn't able to shower on the first night of stay (2) bathroom was mouldy (3) Wi-Fi access in the room required a premium for each device to connect, which wasn't mentioned in their advertisement.

The room assigned to me was a double room. It was large enough for movement and storage.

Room very basic, had to pay for car parking after already paying for the stay - not heard of this before in any other hotel. Bed not very comfortable and the bathroom has multiple holes in the walls.

Good location, not to far to walk into the centre of Edinburgh, near by to the village of Dean.
