The mattress wasn’t firm and the pillows are super thin but that’s just a matter of taste.

We’ve stayed before with them but without our toddler. They are kid and dog friendly and staff is very kind. The grounds, the pool, the building itself, everything is beautiful and for sure we’ll repeat again.

A nice place to go, for relaxation. Not everything was to standard especially for the premium price.

Having enjoyed an expensive outdoor, restaurant lunch in the afternoon, the restaurant food in the evening didn't meet the standard of the price and if you were hungry you would need to order things like chips at extra cost. I pre-ordered a celebration cake, for a birthday - exotic fruits. It was mango and coconut the cake itself was extremely dry and heavy. We had a couple of slices which we didn't finish and ended up leaving it the room when we left. I also ordered wine and fruit bowl on arrival and champagne on the 2nd day of our stay. We had the champagne on arrival with chocolates, but never saw the wine or fruit bowel at all. It had been added to the bill but was taken off without fuss when I explained that the order seemed to be muddled.

The setting is lovely with a view towards the Cheltenham Racecourse. It was very pleasant to spend an afternoon sat enjoying a drinking or having lunch, or maybe enjoying the spa. The rooms were spacious and an excellent bathroom which featured a bath, walk-in show, his and hers sinks and a separate toilet facility.

The spa itself was really small, even though I had read an article online that said it was large. The whole spa was actually smaller than our bedroom, easily the smallest spa I’ve ever been to. The spa closed very early too, so check in was at 3 and the spa closed at 6 so unless you get there bang on 3 and go straight there, you couldn’t really spend that long in there. Also the outdoor pool closed at sun down, but we would have loved to have been in there for a bit longer given the spa had closed and was so tiny. The spa treatments were fully booked so we couldn’t take advantage of that either. The dinner options were ok but nothing fantastic, they were super expensive. We had two main courses, a couple of beers and two bottles of wine over the rest of the evening and the bill totalled £160 which felt excessive. They didn’t explain at check-in that they were keeping the £100 deposit frozen on our bank card for up to 5 days after we had checked out. The car park at the front had limited spaces and the other car park was a little walk away.

The grounds were beautiful. Fantastic location. Really great hotel to bring a dog along, they even had a little doggie spa! The outdoor heated pool was beautiful and the jacuzzi in the spa was lovely. Having the option to order from a menu for breakfast was fab. The swing and the giant chess set in the garden were both appreciated. Really enjoyed being able to sit outside after dinner in the little pods and have drinks. The roll top tub in our bathroom was gorgeous. I loved how the bathroom had a separate toilet and shower cubicle. The products and robes were lovely too. We had a room with a really great view.

My only small complaint is that the younger members of restaurant staff could be informed that at a 5 star hotel I didn't want to be leaned across when my food was served or plates etc collected and there were a couple of occasions of more coffee on the saucer than in the cup! But these are just little things.

The staff were very helpful showing us round and giving us the history of the hotel, we loved our room as it overlooked the race course, there was a lovely choice of food and we had everything we needed for a our stay, its a stunning place to stay

To be honest it is my second stay in 3 months at Ellenborough and there was absolutely no added value. I had also recommended my friend Serena Rees to stay and she booked for 2 nights. If Jonathan had not put 2 and 2 together i would have been in the new wing. Last time i stayed i did think it was expensive for what it is i thought the same this time. We had some service issues when the ice we ordered went to the wrong room which was annoying as we wanted to have a drink when we got ready for the event we were there for. We also noticed dirty glasses on the tables outside until 1pm. I found it very churlish that when i over slept they would not allow me breakfast by room service (1110am) and to that end i think their day time menu should have some all day breakfast items especially for weekend stays. The invoice bills the room as bed and breakfast.

Jonathan was lovely and all the staff friendly. The room was clean and nice and ibg.

Left a bit in no mans land once or twice, when walking in to bar area for a drink or two, Just needs tweaking in that department in that maybe getting guests to take a seat and you'll come over to take the order!

Breakfast was very good, Great choice and staff were exemplary, Room was great, plenty of space, Turn down lady was exceptional and a credit to you. Setting was just perfect for a few days away. Evening meals in restaurant or horseshoe bar area were both very good. Excellent!

We have a baby. We took our temperature monitor with us because rooms over 20 degrees are not good for babies to sleep in as it increases the risk of cot death. The room was too hot and the heating could not be turned down or off. A man came over to try and turn the heating off and the only solution was to turn the air conditioning on. This meant all night the heating was battening the aircon and the temperature only dropped by a degree. This meant we had two anxious nights sleep. The Wi-Fi did not work and we specifically booked this room, so that the baby could watch her songs on the iPad and then once the baby was asleep, we could sit upstairs and watch our shows but this was not possible.

The views and grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was lovely.
