Old Victorian windows meant there was zero noise reduction from the road. The shared bathroom facilities weren't very clean and were two floors (four flights of stairs and two fire doors) away from our room. There were no communal spaces for a hostel, so no chance to mingle with other guests. There were no staff present and the telephone number is an answer phone. An additional £50 deposit had to be paid - which equates to an additional 33% of the cost.

The location is very central. The room was large, the bed was comfortable, there was a sofa in the room. Ultimately you get what you pay for. Easy self check-in.

Very noisy as it close to a busy main road. The glass was only single glazed. They should invest in triple glazing. I did not get a good night's rest.

The location is ideal. Close to all city centre attractions and 10 mins walk to the beachfront.

What I really found a pity is that the communal rooms where all gone. So the atmosphere that Kipps used to have are gone. Definitely not a Backpackers anymore as it used to be. A little detail. The cable for the kettle was to short. So we had to put it on the floor to use it.

It’s the third time I have been to Kipps. It’s obvious that the ownership has changed. The rooms are pretty much the same as it was.

The building feels like it's going to collapse, it certainly needs renovation. It's quite loud due to the location in the central, but that shouldn't come as a surprise.

I liked the anonymous check-in and check-out. The location is great. The room was clean and had everything you need except a bathroom.

The building itself did not look very inviting from the outside, we panicked when we saw it! It definitely needs some TLC and that continues inside. The corridors etc could all do with updating and refreshing, all looks quite run down.

Booked as a last minute trip with a friend, have walked past this place loads! Very affordable and the bed was super comfy. Check-in was an email with codes to get in and our room number. Room was fine, bathroom despite being shared was clean. Great for the night! Really good location, close to the town centre and easy to find

I did not like the strong smell of chemical as I walked into the room for the first time. I also did not like that we had to share a toilet located in another room. However, that is not a complaint. The bed sheets are coming off the bed many times and exposing the mattress. Walls are paper thin heard others conversations in the night.

I liked the service and room for the price. Also, quick communication with the managers. The location is excellent. Clean and tidy.

It was very noisy. Creaking floors and we were kept away by a family upstairs. They were very loud entering and leaving their rooms and seemed to have a small very fast but heavy child that ran around continuously until gone midnight. Sounds really travel in this building. The hotel is quite run down and tatty but the rooms are clean and we would have slept well apart from the noise. It’s right on the main road and so was difficult to unload our car. But you get what you pay for.

Great location opposite the Pavilion and close to the lanes and the beach.

No staff on site, no toilet in the room, just a shared communal one down the hall which lots of people used all night and due to the heavy doors woke us every time someone did. There was matted hair stuck on our pillow which was pretty gross.

It is a good location and the room looked nice.

Was no rush to supply batteries for the telly. Shower and toilet was a tiny room, room next to us were so loud and nothing was said

Wasn’t a lot to like, telly didn’t work on the first night as no batteries in the remote and wasn’t in no rush to supply more, come away with bites on my arms from the bed, the shower/toilet was ok just tiny, the people next to us had about 10 people all shouting till 4-5am so was hard to sleep

No parking - but this was the centre of Brighton. The window frame rattled in the night due to the wind and could only be quietened by jamming a towel in between the window and the frame. Blackout curtains would have been nice too.

You are meant to get an email that advises the code to enter the building and the code for your room key after 3pm on check in day, mine didn't arrive. I tried the buzzer on the door, no reply. I tried phoning the phone no. several times no reply, just said mailbox full. Emailed for codes, no reply. Eventually after 2 hours finally someone came to door after trying all buttons on door. Very frustrating. Not bad for a night or 2 on a budget. Best thing is location, near palace pier and pavilion.
