Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomCould not comment on staff, food or bar as none available due to Covid arrangements. This was disappointing as everywhere else was 'open for business'. I would have thought a continental breakfast would have been OK in the dining room - we were not prepared to pay for the breakfast on offer which would be left in a bag outside the room - there would not have been anywhere in the room to eat it together, except on the bed.
Location was great for Keswick and exploring the North West Lakes. Garden was beautiful and well maintained. The dining area looked lovely, but wasn't in use for any meals unfortunately. Quiet spot.

United KingdomThe complete lack of any human contact. The room had no information on local attractions or things to do. The decor was very dated. There were issues with lamps not working and really poor lighting in the bathroom. The shower cabinet doors didn't operate properly. We had to squeeze through a tiny gap in the doors to get in. Because of the lack of staff there was no one we could see to report the issues to. Coming back at night there was a keypad with a code for entry but no light to see it by. The whole ground floor felt abandoned and lacking in any atmosphere.
The location of the hotel and the gardens were great.

United KingdomThere was no breakfast option. I would have preferred that but I understand because of covid.
Lovely hotel, very comfortable and very clean. It was a short but pleasant walk into Keswick. I never saw the hosts but if something was wrong I could contact them. Lovely place to stay.

SpainWe felt short changed because of no facilities what so ever. Our supposedly superior room was very tired looking with wall paper coming off the walls and cob webs hanging from the ceilings.
Breakfast. There wasn’t one. The location was the only true description of the hotel. It was a lovely location. The hotel would be best described as a room share not a hotel.

United KingdomLovely building and location, easy walk to town centre.
The the "Skiddaw " room we stayed in was very tired and basic. We didn't see the host for the entire stay, so was not welcoming at all. Breakfast not being served, which is poor for this stage of Covid, and considering all other hotels and B&Bs are doing so.

United KingdomDue to covid there was no welcome, no human contact, making for quite an unfriendly experience. Surely we could have had breakfast in the dining room? The replacement breakfast bag was very basic. Also, a room for drying boots and other kit would be useful.

United Kingdom"Country House Hotel"?? Don't stay here. Read other reviews. Covid used as an excuse for providing no room service, no hair dryer, no bar, no meals. Breakfast in a bag for an additional £10! Apart from cursory contact from owner, no other contact. External door operated by keypad but no external light to see after dark so need a torch. Very poor value for £135 a night

United StatesLiked everything but I suggest they add a shelf to the bathroom so we have space for toiletries. I would have liked to have someone available to ask tourist questions, like directions. The owners came anytime we needed them, but I didn’t want to bother them with non-hotel related questions.
Charming and delightful with everything we needed.

United KingdomIt was completely impersonal. The owners would only communicate via an online messaging system they were using and had no appreciation that it was not an obvious system to the casual user. They refused to help face to face. Also, standard breakfasts were not available. There was no shower in the bathroom.
The room was a decent size and well kept.

The bed was very comfortable. The view wasn't too bad either .

United KingdomPrice for room provided, attitude of proprietors, size of room, water pressure, low ceilings, decor, finishing touches.
We booked The Lairbeck Hotel at short notice, at the time there were few options around Keswick. On first approach to Lairbeck we were impressed with the building and entrance hall with a fantastic staircase. Our host Malcolm gave us a less than enthusiastic welcome. Informing us the keys to the room were in an envelope on a table in the hallway and told us of the location of the room, no problem with that. However on entering said room up two flights of stairs our hearts sank. The room could only be described as a converted attic, very small with low sloping ceilings. It is called the "Maids room" and we could see why! Totally unworthy of the £455 price tag for four nights. Nice carpet and bed and generally clean. There were cobwebs from the ceiling and window in the bathroom which I removed before my partner who is arachnaphobic saw them, no problem there as everywhere has spiders, but the dust I saw on top of the cabinet as I removed the webs had obviously been there for months (I cleaned that too). The decor left a lot to be desired, with cheap B&Q wallpaper peeling off in some places and less than professional finishing. The supposed garden and mountain views were only visible if you put your head out of the tiny window! As Genius Booking.com members we were under the impression that breakfast was included in our booking. When no breakfast bag arrived (as dining room closed due to Covid as per hotel description) I went downstairs to enquire. I was met with a surly and curt reply that breakfast was not included in the booking with Booking.com and that was made plain in the multitude of emails Lairbeck sent before our arrival. However the emails quoted "no meal plan included" which we assumed to mean evening meals as Breakfast was not mentioned anywhere in the emails. I said I would take the matter up with Booking.com and returned to the attic.

United KingdomThe strength of the COVID precautions meant that there was no room servicing if staying for more than one day, and the booking in process was impersonal. We had not prebooked breakfast and it was therefor not possible to obtain breakfast and we had to go out for it.
Covid 19 precaution were very strong. The location was excellent, fairly quiet but within easy walking distance of the centre of Keswick. The owners were very pleasant.

United KingdomCheck in time seemed a bit late at 4pm. Booking.com had stated 3pm. No personalised greeting due to covid rules in place (unless required assistance). Had to request room refreshments of milk (or fresh towels) for 2nd day stay as room not serviced during stay.
Perfect location, near to the park, shops and lake. Good amount of parking on site. Building looks lovely. Room was nicely sized for the 'box room' for solo traveller. Water temperature was nice and hot for a bath.

United KingdomWell when I booked it was breakfast included, but when I got there they said it was not included. It cost extra money and was certainly not impressed with your service. It cost N extra 30 pounds to get breakfast . People could not believe we payed so much and didn't get breakfast. I know I saw breakfast included when I booked it and so upset as it was our 50th wedding anniversary.
I liked the location and the hotel but so upset with the result in no breakfast.

United KingdomDid not see anyone from entering the property to leaving a day early. The reason I left early was because I could not sleep due to how COLD the room was in the evening, not sure what time the heating is switched off but by 10. 30 the room was very cold even though on 2nd night my daughter had given me a blanket. Why no breakfast? Most hotels are now back to meet & greet and serving breakfast this is just laziness!!! I have stayed in a number of hotels/B n B's in Keswick while visiting my daughters 4-5 times in the year and this must be the worse. A code to get in the front door, which in the pitch black you can not see took me 5 attempts no door bell to ask for help car parking ridiculous Upset my daughters & grandchildren because I left a day early .....Never stay again and definitely not worth the money I paid to stay in The Store Room You should be ashamed!!!!
The building was beautiful pity it's not owned by decent proprietors
