Charged £5 per day for car parking, and £7 per day for Wi-Fi. There was a notice in the room saying they would NOT enter the room during your stay. However after 2 days you could ask them to clean the room. So I did that on the third day, and reception said you have to ask the night before! I've never been in a hotel before where they do not clean out your room every day. On the other hand, there was a spare set of towels. Reception did not answer 2 emails I sent (one before my stay, one after), and was permanently engaged (almost certainly phone off the hook) on the evening after I left.

Great location, hotel has impressive building and good pool / gym facility. Food was good, although they only did fried egg for breakfast (no poached or scrambled).

The rooms on top floor were really hot and I took a while to get used to it. The cooked breakfast wasn’t as great as hoped for. The sausages were of poor quality. Was hoping for more fresh fruit, different variety of breads and pastries.

The beds were very comfortable and big.

Although because of mobility problems we asked for a room near the lift however the room they gave us (125) could not have been further away from the lift (I reckon about 200 yards). We had to go to reception and they gave us a much better-located room (302). For the amount we paid for the stay, I think it's disgusting that we have to pay £5 per day for the car park. The room although comfortable was very basic with furniture that looked like it had been rescued from a car boot sale.

The booking process was good and the location of the hotel was fine. The food was OK but not exceptional. Drinks were nicely priced at £4.50 for a pint of Carlsberg. The interior architecture of the interior is spectacular an inheritance of its Victorian beginnings.

There was no window in the room at all. So felt a bit cell like. But it was suitable for what we wanted which was a cheap room to break up the journey.

Comfy bed and clean, tele, extra pillows and lamps, comfortable room and friendly staff

    Nothing

The location of the hotel is superb, a beautiful building with reminders of its grandiose history. Perfect location for the Buxton Opera house and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and is a perfect base for exploring the Peak District. Friendly staff and all areas of the hotel spotlessly clean.

It was a self serve breakfast which offered both a traditional English breakfast and Continental. Someone was on hand to check the temperature of the food and would return food to the kitchen if needed. There are a variety of shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants plus the park and pavillion. Also a short drive to Bakewell and other attractions.

Nothing really, had problems with room key but reception were helpful. Parking charge seemed a bit cheeky but its central buxton and i suspect they have trouble keeping out tourists who are not staying in the hotel. This means residents can almost park by the door.

I called in at this hotel twice - once on my way north and once on the way back. Having not paid a great deal, I was very surprised to find a very comfortable even lavish hotel. Little extras in the bedroom made it feel like a much more expensive place.

Our room was very small but didn’t mind, the bed was so uncomfortable we would of been better sleeping on the floor, we asked the manager if he wouldn’t mind moving us but was very rude and defensive, he moved us to a room which was as ok as the first one however it was located in the old service quarters and couldn’t sleep because of the noise and light outside our window, deliveries were constant, we’ve stayed many times and always loved it, but not this time, won’t be staying again unfortunately

The hotel is lovely and located well

Lack of hash browns at breakfast and vegetable fingers instead of veggie sausages.

Buxton is so lovely and the hotel is in a great location to easily access all the sites. The big sign helps to navigate back and get to bed after a few. Cheap access to the pool, sauna and steam room was much appreciated the morning after.

You only get one coffee in your room . Most hotels supply more than one. We was not warned there was a wedding party staying there so couldn't sit down and enjoy a drink at the bar as the whole area was being over run by 100s of wedding guests . Had to wait 20 mins or more for a drink then had to take them outside just so we could sit down . Wedding party's have there own function room . It should stay in there not take the whole of the hotel over . £5 parking charge for 24 hours is not fair as you pay enough to stay at the hotel as it is . Parking was a night mare . Car park was so over crowded.

The Palace Hotel was located in a very good area to the town . The hotel was clean and the stall were very nice. The breakfast was fantastic

The furniture in the room was dated but overall the decor was good The spa could do with a bit of money spending on it - it didn’t feel very clean and there were multiple areas where tiles were missing / paint was peeling etc. the changing rooms were very functional - not really what you expected to find in such a grand setting.

The room was huge and clean. Value for money Great position for the opera house The staff were exceptionally friendly The food (breakfast) was delicious and excellent value!

ultimately you get what you pay for and I had a good deal based on a one night stay. No doubt that was why my room was “acceptable” but not ideal !! .. I did see other rooms which were possibly higher and different in price and they seemed nice. My room was sadly cold and it appeared I could do little to change the heating overnight which disturbed my sleep

perfectly situated and on the face of it very grand with a sense of history

Bed was not that comfy although I slept well. Room decor needs attention

Room was great value for money. Slept well on bed although mattress was quite hard. Join in centre of double bed (two singles joined) was very lumpy. We really enjoyed our stay for the discounted price we paid. If we had paid full price I would not have been as happy as décor was showing signs of age. This hotel will need some refurbishment at some point during the 5 years. Definitely recommend staying here if you can get a discounted price from their normal rates. Breakfast was superb! Live piano player during evening drinks was a lovely touch too. He only plays a couple of days at weekend though so check when he's on!
