Inappropriate music in the dining and breakfast area. Rock and pop music that didn’t match the decor and atmosphere

Staff were fantastic, the location, lovely food and that medieval feeling. The peacocks are so beautiful

Ruthin castle was a great little getaway. Relaxed atmosphere and very friendly. I have seen the reviews about how it looks tired and a bit shabby. Yes probably does need a bit of a refresh but its a castle an old castle! Everything was clean bed was comfy and clean as was bathroom and towels. The peacocks are amazing!! Once again i will say the staff were very friendly, chatty and helpful as were the people in the town.

The room was beautiful but would benefit from a lick of paint. Mattress was much too thin and uncomfortable. The castle and staff were amazing. Grounds are so beautiful. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant. More serene music would have been nicer than pop music and more fitting to the surrounding (personal choice). Breakfast was ok. Coffee was awful, as was the fruit juice!

Bar was little pricey, and a little small. Lack of little extras in the room…eg a couple of bottles of water for example.

Loved the location and layout of the castle, lots to explore in very peaceful setting, within walking distance of high street to give you options. Really spacious room considering in the old part of the castle, of course parts look like they need a little work but as it’s a castle felt they’d done a really good job. Booking was half board and food was fabulous, and very tasty Breakfast was very good value, had breakfast at 9:30 when it closed at 10:00 still plenty of options and hot!

The room itself was quite disappointing. It was in need of some serious renovation and it didn’t really meet my expectations.

The public areas of the Hotel are exceptional and full of character. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. The grounds (including peacocks) were also stunning.

The food at the castle it is a let down, unfortunately wasn't good and quite expensive. Breakfast it was OK apart from the scrambled egg which it tasted really weird like it was made from a packet. Cleanliness could do with maybe changing the old fittings as you could see rust on apart from that it was OK. I would probably not rush back

The castle was absolutely beautiful, we did enjoy it. The walk through the gardens was so peaceful. We absolutely loved the peacocks we even got to feed them . The staff really friendly

The room was in need of TLC lots of dust and grime under bed top of wardrobe dusty ceiling needed painting bathroom grout needs replacing window sill was dirty plug holes could do with bleach down them all these things can be easily fixed and for the price it should be better. Outside our room the wall was coming away and as my husband is a plasterer he said it could easily fall down in one piece. At dinner we were overcharged for an extra and 10% surcharge worked out at 40% of bill an error that several customers complained about next day at reception so as it was our 18th anniversary it kind of spoiled it but it is a lovely place and we still made the most of it. Just a shame we have had to write this review.

Beautiful grounds impressive building and wildlife a bonus food good and comfy beds

Would have a bigger room next time. We had Sunday lunch and although the meat was very tender I don't think it was with the money as the portions were small. Basically a big yorkshire pud and little else. Would prob eat off main menu next time.

The staff were superb especially the lady on reception when we arrived, didn't get her name however. Ruth at breakfast was fantastic and so helpful esp as my Husband is disabled. Have to say they were some of the best scrambled eggs I've ever had!

Our room was very cold when we arrived and the radiator in the bathroom never got very warm. Just a suggestion but maybe the rooms need to be warmed before guests arrive. It should be noted however that when we mentioned this to Reception a portable heater was brought to our room straight away. Would have been nice if there had been a mini fridge in the room, but that's just us being fussy! We were a little confused by the 'servicing' of the room. In the welcome book it stated that guests should inform Reception if they want their room serviced every day. We stayed for 4 nights and only asked for our room to be serviced once; however it was obvious it had been 'serviced' to a degree every day, but not consistently, eg biscuits were left 1 day, but not on the other days, sometimes the cups were washed and sometimes not, and the bin was never emptied so it was overflowing by the time we left. Having said this, due to the overall lovely experience we had during our stay, these niggles seem minor and would not deter us from staying again.

We loved the history and quirkiness of the accommodation. There are clearly areas of the hotel that are run down (it feels like a work in progress) but don't be put off by this as it is still an amazing place to stay, partly due to the resident peacocks which seem to be around every corner and the awesome features around the place due to its history! The biggest bonus for us with the hotel though was the staff - they were all brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. A particular shout out to Rory behind the bar - what a lovely guy and a real asset to the hotel. In fact I would say all the staff are a credit to the place. We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings during our 4 night stay and the food was delicious, breakfast was also good. We booked a spa experience during our stay and it was brilliant. We would definitely go back.

Having to pay supplements for food despite having already paid for all inclusive package. Food was good, but very limited menu.

Atmosphere and surroundings were fantastic. Peacocks, rabbits and squirrels in the grounds added to the ambience.

The restaurant food was mediocre at best, poor for the pricing. And it was a terrible, dark, dingy room to have a restaurant in, whether the historic banqueting hall(unlikely!) or not. The double bed was just two singles put together. The room servicing was terrible, all they did was straighten the bed, didn't refil the empty bathroom soap, didn't replace used coffee, milk or biscuits, didn't add to the very limited, very cheap thin toilet rolls, didn't tidy or clean anything. Various things in the room and hotel were under maintained. The door latch wouldn't lock. The bathroom extractor fan didn't work. The curtains were wet through when we arrived, oddly. Toilet seat was broken.

The Castle, grounds, pecocks and location were amazing! The gyms were best of any hotel i have ever stayed at. Rooms were big and well equipped. The restaurant waitresses were professional and gorgeous and the barman was great. Reception staff varied, but all good.
