How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The coffee at breakfast was not great. Could hear the courtyard noise on a saturday night.
Lovely hotel, friendly staff and extremely comfortable bed. Bathroom had rituals soap and there was plenty of tea and coffee. Parking is free and to the rear of the property.

Someone forgot to put a bottle of water in my room.
The bathroom was amazing. Cherie, on reception was very warm and welcoming. Check in was very fast.

The room we were first assigned was nothing like the picture on Booking.com There was little room around the bed whereas we had chosen the higher rate for a one with desk and extra seating. It was so disappointing, especially having stayed in the amazing room 12 last time. We complained and were immediately upgraded. On checkout, the bill sounded high and it turn out our payment to booking.com had not been deducted. Again this was soon put right so all was well in the end.
The staff were polite and immediately reacted positively to any concern. Breakfast arrangements were clearly explained and we opted for the free continental breakfast which was ample for our appetite. We enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the restaurant. The same menu was available in the bar but it's noisier, conversation would have been difficult. The restaurant manager was kind enough to arrange a move when a quiet table became available.

A bit noisy but it’s a pub what would you expect but after 11 quiet

The restaurant wasn't busy but it was difficult to get the young waitresses attention. They seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. This was a shame. We would definitely come again but probably not eat in the hotel restaurant.
The bar & bar staff were lovely&it was full of atmosphere. The room was amazing & the bed very comfortable. We had a great night's sleep.

Room was too warm, despite turning down the setting it kept resetting itself back up to 23 degrees, we couldn't open the window either so a rather warm night.
Welcoming, really nice room, superb location for our trip. Easy booking, easy entry on our return from our night out.

One thing that would change my score to a 10 is if the king bed was 1 king matress not 2 mattresses together as I kept finding myself in the middle.
Amazing character and location. Friendly staff, deliciousbreakfast. Lovely atmosphere will definitely return.

I suffer from poor mobility and I felt that the shower was hazardous to me, as the floor was slippy,without a rubber mat or ridges.
The staff were helpful beyond the call of duty. The room was very comfortable. I particularly liked the furnishings, especially the artworks.

Be aware, the building itself is old so lots of steps for some rooms and no lift
Customer service is excellent. Location could not be better if you want to visit Hertford itself - everything is on your doorstep. Booking through booking.com entitles you to the continental breakfast, which was perfectly good. However if you want a little splurge, the cooked breakfasts are delicious. I would describe the Salisbury as a proper "old fashioned" hotel and bar, for all the right reasons!

Our room was unfortunately above the downstairs toilets and could hear the hand dryers going off
The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was cosy and clean.
