There is not much to dislike. The accommodation and food is expensive but considering all of the above, it is good value for money.

St Michaels Manor is a hotel that I have stayed in many times in the past. It is a beautiful Georgian Manor located on Fishpool Street in St Albans. The Cathedral and city centre is a ten minute walk. The food is exceptional and the service is good. The garden complete with ox-bow lake overlooks the park and is beautiful. While we were there the BBC were filming and utilising the hotel as an ideal back drop.

The heating wasn’t working in my room , so I was quickly upgraded to a different room which was fine but the decor was very dark ( black wallpaper)and didn’t quite as cosy as it could. The TV’s are quite small for the size of the rooms make it difficult to view from a distance.

Shower water pressure wasn’t great this stay, bar food wasn’t as good as usual Bar tables aren’t great for dining

Didn’t like that I couldn’t lock my door, there’s no clasp or anything on the inside, and you could just turn the handle so didn’t feel secure. I don’t know if I would stay in future due to this.

Nice modern room, comfy beds, great tea & coffee selection in the room. Good breakfast selection of continental and hot options.

Management and staff always polite and helpful. A charming oldy-worldy feel to the manor. Lovely room. Excellent breakfast. Good parking.

Some aspects of my room, were a little tired (curtains) & VERY cool on arrival. The shower over the bath, made it more difficult to use.

The location of Hotel was ideal for me. The room was very quiet overlooking the late. Breakfast had an excellent array of items, together with a good menu for choice of hot items.

The location of my room it was at the top of the stairwell, therefore I was woken up a few times through my stay

The staff were very professional and helpful, going above and beyond. I would like to mention how wonderful the entrance Christmas tree was and lovely that reception explained that housekeeping had decorated it.

Unfortunately the food at the hotel is not very nice. We had a row of not that tasty food such as afternoon tea, christianing, breakfast etc.

Staff went above and beyond to help me and our young family. They were so helpful with my baby and our travel cot and they were always polite and made you feel welcome. Great location and beautiful gardens..the room was also clean something I really cherish.
