How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The bar didn't open till late afternoon, having to request an iron instead of having one in room when already sent message about said iron

This is a coach tour hotel so is tailored to meet a certain clientele. People smoking out front is not a great first experience, Room was adequate and beds were very comfy. The hotel is clearly dated and there were signs of water damage on the combed ceiling above one of the beds from a previous leak. There was a sign at reception saying that dinner had to be booked before 7pm so if you checked in after 7pm then there is no chance of evening food at the hotel. Breakfast was mediocre - the scrambled egg tasted of water and nothing else. Choice was limited although there was plenty of food and it was kept restocked.
Location is lovely and there was evening entertainment on in the bar for the coach parties which was unexpected, but added to the atmosphere.

Hallway carpets and ceilings were a bit dated and worn, but it didn't affect the stay. Did not have breakfast or use WIFI, so cannot comment on those.
It was a large quaint old Victorian-era hotel that has a large lounge and rooms on multiple floors. My single room was a decent size and both clean and comfortable. No issues with the room and was warm enough.

Room was small for a double, probably as I had a dog. However, needed more floor space for the dog! Will ask for a bigger room next time. This one was a really cheap deal so fabulous for the price.
Love the big old style hotel, the big staircase, the verandah with views. Staff were great, nice to sit & have a drink. Lovely breakfast. Very dog friendly. Walking distance to the town centre.

Big mistake. When I came back to the hotel in the evening I was locked out, my friends, local people, phoned the number on the door. An awful man appeared very disgruntled as though he had been disturbed from sleep or a movie, He stabbed his finger at the door sign on the glass and shouted at my friends when they asked where was the notice about locking up hours, then he marched off. We were taken back by his rudeness - even more so - the locked door starts at 9pm - the time I returned was 7.30pm! ...........!! This was disgraceful. I demand an apology for his behaviour [9th March, 24]
Clean rooms and clean hotel, nice and warm everywhere for winter. Lots of hot water. Characterful building.

Dated and tired. Stains in ceiling and missing tiles. Poor pressure in shower. Far too warm. One radiator would not turn down so was max temp all night.
Clean and tidy. Easy check in. Central location. Easy parking. Lift to all floors as my wife has mobility issues. Tea making in room. Good wifi. Impressive building from outside. Price.

Heating/radiators came on early morning and was noisy but we accept that it is an old hotel. This did not spoil our stay.
