Breakfast service was very poor. Young guy appeared inexperienced / out of depth. Constantly had to be asked for things. Coffee, milk, butter, cups, cutlery etc. Only 4 people in restaurant at this point. Cooked Breakfast took forever to arrive. But was nice when it did. Got busier as we left - glad we were early ish !!!

The only thing (which I suppose can’t be helped as it’s been really warm in the UK at the minute) the room was 100 degrees - no air con or fan. We had to keep the window open and our room backed onto a Tesco express. Tesco was unloading a delivery at 6am making loads of noise and you could hear a lot of people talking which woke us up really early. Understandably you do get that though with a central location so bear that in mind.

The location was really good and right in the centre and the walk to waterfalls was just up the road. The property was a pub, it had a big beer garden which was in full sun. Rooms were big, bed was big and comfortable and room was clean.

Rooms were a bit small (to be expected in an older building) and having to deal with all the stairs and auto-locking doors was a hassle.

Older pub/hotel right in the middle of Ambleside. Close to everything. Excellent bar and restaurant on site.

breakfast was quite limited in options but the biggest hurdle was not having any towels at all on Saturday evening as the cleaning company had let the hotel down apparently. The manager did not seem particularly concerned by this or how it might be a problem as we had spent the day walking and were due to go out for a meal.

The room and bed were massive with a nice view overlooking the street café. Expect to pay a little more in the Lake District, but the Ambleside location was a very good hiking/biking base. "English breakfast" was tasty.

Comfort of the beds, and hot shower. food was good and cocktail's excellent. Very near to attractions in the area, all within walking distance.

Room was clean and tidy although in need of decorating. Beds very comfortable. Excellent breakfast and lovely waiting on staff. The location is idea for Ambleside and the surrounding areas. if you have a bus pass the local buses are free to travel on

Not much. We were taking part in a bike race so needed to be up early. The staff gave us some food we could eat in lieu of the normal breakfast so were great in that regard but difficult to rate the regular food given we didn’t get chance to eat it. Also, a tad pricey compared to other places I’ve stayed in Ambleside but guess that may have been a reflection of the particular weekend we stayed

we were told we hadn't paid for breakfast the 2nd morning which was a mistake on their part. I was also overcharged £12.00 which I didn't realise until I got home. I did email them but have not received a reply.

I had gammon and chips for an evening meal, it was pretty basic and more expensive than the same meal at my local Ember Inns.

Vicky was very friendly and really helpful, she is a credit to the company.

Not so much a dislike, but this is a very busy pub as well, so you have to run the gauntlet a bit to get to the rooms , Unfortunately, due to staffing the bar/ restaurant closed around 9 pm, Very limited parking

The room could have been cleaner, by the bed there were clipped nails from a previous guest.

The White Lion is located right in the middle of Ambleside so a cracking location for exploring the surrounding area. The staff were great and really helpful. The food is good honest pub grub and the room was roomy and a high standard of finish.

I appreciate the location is a key factor but I do think the price was expensive for a one night stay. It is great the hotel has parking for residents at the side of the building but we had to wait a while as some non residents had parked there which isn’t fair when parking can be such a challenge. Appreciate that’s not necessarily the hotel’s fault but it would be fab if that could be stopped.

Fantastic location right in the centre of Ambleside. The staff are brilliant - very personable and professional. Room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Had a good night’s sleep too.
