Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The room is big for solo traveller, although no air-conditioner but the room is cool and I can sleep well every night. There are no restaurants or shop nearby, yet I am bycycle traveller and there is a big supermarket 3km nearby only take 15mintues ride :)

JapanIf you've backpacked in other countries, or if you don't plan on using the kitchen, a bit of dinginess in the kitchen probably won't bother you. The futon were a little on the thin side, one more layer would have been nice, but plenty warm. Very atmospheric in general, nice big old country home with many rooms, but the kitchen heater didn't have enough fuel and or didn't work very well and didn't have instructions (we knew how to use it but others might not). If you have more than a couple people you can't beat the value, just read between the lines to keep your expectations in check.
If you're traveling with a group and saving money is a high priority, this place is great. It may feel a touch more cluttered than other places, and the kitchen was not spotless but pretty well equipped. It's probably more comfortable in warmer weather, but if you're used to wearing warm clothes around your own house in winter, no problem, and the quiet and green surroundings are very peaceful.

United KingdomLoo and kitchen not clean. Room scruffy - strong smell of paraffin heater in bedroom . I suppose you get what you pay for in some ways but I wasn't expecting it to be so grubby in the toilet, sink and kitchen.. we were due to stay 2 nights but left after one - it felt a bit depressing.. The sticky fly traps hanging down from the ceiling in the bedroom and kitchen and the yellowing wallpaper just made it all feel very grim. But maybe those sort of things don't matter to you. It's a lovely old house and the museum in the town ( old police station ) was really good. - lovely art and architecture.
Bedclothes smelled fresh and clean. We slept reasonably well. A bit marmite : either you don't mind a bit of grubbiness ( apart from bedclothes) and like the good value or it feels too depressing.

JapanThe hygiene of the whole place left much to be desired. The place did not reflect the price I paid, especially considering the cleaning fee charge. Also, I found the toilet room too difficult to use because of how cramped it was.
The host was kind and welcoming.

Japan- If you are at all bothered by cigarette smoke, stay away. When we pulled up, the host lit a new cigarette and proceeded to give us the tour all while puffing large bouts of smoke in our faces. He even brought it into our room, as if the room didn’t smell like smoke enough already. It was awful. - The older man made a very creepy and suggestive comment about one of our female friends within the first few minutes. She felt uncomfortable about going out after that and even had to skip showering because she was nervous to run into him. - Wow. So many bugs. They were everywhere. Flying around the room, one was in my slipper in the morning, etc. That was a fun surprise to find wiggling around, plus it was a stink bug so the smell stayed with me. - Toilet area is small and nasty. I’m 5’7 and my knees hit the door. I barely fit on the seat itself it was so small. We had to stop at a convenience store after checking out just so everyone could use the bathroom. - Room is not only old but also just gross and covered in dust. It looks like they haven’t cleaned in years. The bug tape hanging in room corners looks pretty nasty too. - The house being on the older side isn’t much of an issue, so much as how dirty and disorganized it seemed. Also you have to hope other guests and hosts will be quiet if you’re sensitive to noise. - Futon were so thin and uncomfortable. Pillow was awful. Everyone slept horribly. - They message and call before arrival a lot. It got to be too much. Maybe the people in charge of messages don’t communicate? I’m not sure.
I’ll start by saying I understand this property is cheap, so it’s kind of a get what you pay for situation. That being said, oh my goodness we were not prepared. - Shower area looked pretty brand new and one person used it, they said it was nice.
