Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanIt’s not dislike or don’t like: but I do think that the food could be better - especially comparing to other services of this fabulous hotel.
Almost everything is beyond expectation! Facilities are great and staffs are really considerate. I’ll recommend it to friends and I will stay in it again next time I travel to Hakone.

United KingdomThis hotel is in a wonderful location with a beautiful garden and lush views. The rooms are very spacious and the hotel is full of old-world charm. It was really relaxing to stay here, it felt like a wonderful escape. We enjoyed the full breakfast one morning which was delicious but a little expensive. We left a charger behind in our room and the staff were fantastic in tracking it down and forwarding it to our next hotel. Fabulous service and a wonderful attitude.

United StatesMy room wasn't fully cleaned prior to my arrival. There were potato chips on floor between the chair and the window. I choose ECO room clean a couple days and hotel info page advised that towels and amenities would be refreshed, and beds would be made without changing linens. The beds were not made on ECO cleaning days.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff were very accommodating.

United StatesThat we couldn’t use the onsen or spa services prior to checking in, and that they only agree to make a dinner reservation for us after we’ve checked in (by that time it’s usually too late for the on-site Japanese and French restaurants).

IrelandHow to balance class and formality with time of relax is a question for me. Dress code is indicated as smart casual for most locations but felt even higher expectations. So if you look for a more relaxed atmosphere, specially if you are travelling with kids, it may not be the best option.
Historic hotel resort from the end of 19th ventury, located at the core of Hakone, beautiful valleys and national parks. Character of the common spaces, rooms, spa, gardens and external pool.

United KingdomThe hotel has a few funny rules that they are keen to stick to. Our 15 year old was not allowed in the bar with us and we asked for more fries at 8.40pm but were told that the kitchen had closed at 8.30pm.
A stunning old hotel in Hakone. The swimming pool was a completely amazing addition to our stay. We also loved doing the circuit of Pirate ship, rope car, train, stopping at the sculpture park and getting back to the hotel all in one day. The hotel was really comfortable and beautifully designed. We also loved using the onsen.

SwitzerlandCommunication with the hotel reception was poor. Given that this is a place where mostly foreigners and tourists come, I would have hoped that the reception can offer better services in English.
The hotel was vintage, and located in a beautiful area surrounded by greenery. Also with easy access to the bus which can take you to visit the entire Hakone area.

United StatesFor a moment, I couldn't figure out what needed to be improved. I'm satisfied. If the hotel makes a change, he may lose his original appearance.
Ancient hotels with historical stories. If you like Japanese style, this is a good choice. It's very stylish. Japanese Kaiseki cuisine is very distinctive.

PhilippinesNone! Everything was great about this hotel. The Hakone town is small so some businesses close early. The amenities in the hotel made our nights more enjoyable after a whole day of sightseeing.
The rooms are spacious, and the amenities are great. This is our second time to check-in this property. The refreshments station in the hotel has a very good selection of beverages. We will be back.

United StatesThe hotel is up on a hill and away from the lake. I could only get to the lake Ashi or attractions in Hakone by car. I imagine it would be very difficult to stay at Fujiya and get to places without a private car or taxi.
It was a new experience for many of us in our party with Onsen and Hakone. Fujiya was a beautiful, relaxing and memorable experience for all of us. The staff was very attentive, helpful and hospitable. I really appreciated the history of Fujiya and what an unique Western and Japanese of architecture and decor. We tried both the Japanese and Western breakfast and both were more than what we expected. We loved the garden in back of the hotel that we only discovered on the last day of our stay. We love the neighborhood with cute and quaint shops and restaurants. We will definitely will come back to Fujiya and Hakone!
