Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IrelandIt was cold but this is due to the location in the mountains, so bring warm clothes. Remember that this is a temple lodging, not a hotel, and you will love it. The monks made our stay really comfortable.
When we arrived, they welcomed us with tea and a small sweet, which was lovely. Our room was large and looked out to the garden, which was gorgeous. We went in November and the autumnal colours in the garden and the town were absolutely beautiful. In the morning we had the privilege to attend the prayer and we received a blessing. After breakfast it started to snow, so we spent an hour watching the garden slowly turn white, it was magical. The communal toilets were clean and the communal bath was small but comfortable. Because the town is up in the mountains, and the building is all wood and paper walls it was very cold in the corridors, but we had heating in the room and nice thick covers for the night. A highlight of the stay were the dinner and the breakfast. All vegan food, very tasty even for us, who are not vegan or vegetarian. It is very conveniently located to visit Okunoin cemetery, we took part in a night tour, something that we highly recommend. All in all it was a magical stay and I would highly recommend it.

United KingdomThe rooms do not need TV's. The family in the next room had their TV for quite a lot of the evening which spoilt the zen vibe.
Outstanding food, beautiful temple, calm and quiet with the prettiest pond with koi carp and Japanese maple and cedar trees swaying in the breeze. Loved the morning prays with the monks and other guests. A great way to start the day.

JapanThere are very thin partitions between the rooms, so if you have sleep issues and there are other guests in the next room, it may be difficult to fully enjoy the stay. The pillows and futon mattresses are pretty hard, which is not for everyone.
Amazing vegan food for breakfast and dinner, majestic garden visible from every room, very authentic and well-decorated interiors overall, peaceful atmosphere, kind staff.

Magical setting with our room viewing a courtyard garden. It started raining after we arrived and the atmosphere was transformational. The food was excellent and the staff was courteous, running to the bus stop to return my reading glasses. It was an unforgettable experience.

CanadaThe only comment I would have is that we felt very isolated from everyone... which I'm sure is the intent at a Buddhist temple (inward reflection!). Our incredibly prepared meals were stealthily set out in our private eating room for us to enjoy alone. However, my husband and I love meeting people and hearing their stories. We would have greatly enjoyed having the option of a communal dining experience. We are very inquisitive and would have loved the opportunity to ask about the life of a Buddhist monk, the history of the temple, the area, and even about the meals that are so beautifully prepared.
It was a fabulous experience, staying at a Buddhist temple. The inside of the temple was even more beautiful than the pictures show. The location was excellent, and so were the meticulously prepared meals. We really enjoyed hiking around all day and then coming back and relaxing in the onsen. The walk through the 'cemetery' was one of the highlights of our entire trip to Japan... truly incredible to experience such a historical, sacred, and vast memorial ground. The accommodation was very close, so you can go back at night (with a flashlight) to see some of the lanterns lit up.

United StatesThe heater in the room was kerosene. It smelled rather bad and worried me about CO poisoning. The room was quite cold but the beds warm. It would be nice if they upgraded their heaters to include a CO sensor and to be less smelly.

New ZealandAs for the sleeping, the mats provided were okay - they were the thinest we had on our trip.
The food served was fantastic and the onsen was wonderful for an evening soak. Being able to watch the morning prayer was also special and to watch the carp in the ponds. Location is great if you want to walk to the Okunoin cemetery at night.
