Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThe place is just exceptional. as a solo traveler, I felt totally immersed. I really fell in love with the city. the ryokan is close to the train station, the main sites of interest which I mainly visited on foot (return by bus). Kahori-san is charming, welcoming, warm. The very kind cleaning lady. I will definitely come back! See you soon and thank you very much. Sylvie

South AfricaThe stairs to where the rooms are are quite steep, but it is to be expected. I just mentioned it because it is quite a feat if you have a lot of luggage like my daughter and I. The landlady helped us, though, and there was another guest who had a big case for his cycle, and he could just leave it downstairs. So, not a big problem, just something to be aware of.
The host was very friendly and her English good. The location is near the Kyoto station, which is awesome. The Inn itself is beautiful and made one feel part of Japan., and even though guests share bathroom facilities, everything was spotlessly clean. We could also do our washing, I will stay there again

United KingdomToilets and showers were on the 1st floor whilst my room was on second. The stairs were steep and I would've tripped wearing the slippers.
Friendly welcoming reception always willing to help. My room was spacious with a remote control light switch. Close to Kyoto tower.

United StatesNothing I did not like. Very satisfied with my stay. Obviously, if you are looking for a more space, this is probably the place you may not want. However, if you take into consideration the spacing reality of many Japanese cities, what you get for the price is a great value.
For the price, I do not think you can get a better value! It is very close to the train station (Central terminal from Tokyo!), and in a very quiet area. Like many places in Japan, you need to get your bearings straight before going to the inn but once you find it, it is amazingly easy to get to the train station and to the rest of Kyoto! The room is what you would expect for any Japanese place; small and simple. Just a bed on the floor, a small table and a few hooks to hang things. There was a window but not much to see, AC and heating. That was pretty much it. Again, I did not expect, or need, much beyond what I got, so I found the inn adequate for my needs. Oh, I love the kimono in the room! Very comfortable and practical. Wish I could have bought it but the owner would not let me. The facilities was good; it had a kitchen and good living room space. Bathrooms were clean and easy to use, quiet public space especially considering how the Japanese construct their homes with everything open. I heard the owner speaking in the afternoon when I checked in, but at night, it was surprisingly quiet. It helped that the other guests were also respectful of the quiet hours! I was there for only one night, but I would have no problem staying at Chita Guest Inn again when I return to Kyoto. For the price, it is a great value!

ItalyThe lack of private bathrooms is clearly stated at the reservation but I underestimated the disconfort it entails.
Very good price for the services. Excellent position. Warm and supportive reception by the owner. Young and international guests. Complete services (kitchen, fridge, washing machine and drier, possibility to hang out the laundry, ...)

IsraelAs in old houses, the floors creaked and the walls were thin. It made it a bit loud during the night and morning. But it wasn’t too much of a disturbance. The washing machine and drier are all in Japanese and even when I used a translator I made a mistake and ended up losing the money I had entered. I recommend asking ahead and getting some help from the staff before using.
The lady running the inn was lovely and helpful! The location was great, a few minutes walk from kyoto station and some attractions. The room we stayed at wad large and comfy. Wifi was solid.

Guests better keep quiet because it is a old traditional house, you hear everything, when i was staying there everyone was decent and not loud. Highlight: The tatami bed and nut pillow were extremely comfortable!!!
