The meals and service were particularly excellent. The facilities were beautiful and had a timeless yet traditional Japanese feel as did the surrounding spa town of Hakone. I loved all the staff - they were so kind and helpful! We felt welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. Incredible hospitality and possibility for relaxation.

Cost is by person so can be a bit pricier (costed over $200 per person).

It was super private and spacious. We didn’t see to hear other guests at all during our night here. Service was exceptional and we enjoyed dining in our room.

Everything was amazing. Service was high quality -- staff was able to speak English very well, got us comfortable quickly and provided a great experience. The public and private baths were also very comfortable. We ordered a kaiseki dinner separate from our booking which was served in our room which was wonderful. Breakfast, included in our booking, was delicious as well. Would recommend and go again!

The minute you get there, the hospitality is a+. The staff was exceptional, taking our luggage, bringing us our meals, giving us a tour and being there if we needed anything. It was the best service we’ve had. They even gave us umbrellas for our 30 second walk to their car and when I closed mine too early, the staff immediately put her umbrella over me (I’m so sorry about that and thank you so much!) The room and private onsen were everything we dreamed - the scenery was so beautiful and serene, and the onsen our room was clean and healing. Amazing stay, wish we were there longer!

Lovely traditional guesthouse. The staff were wonderful from first greeting to departure. On arrival we were offered a beverage whilst looking at the view then checking in. After choosing a kimono for our stay we were shown the facilities and then our room, which we didn’t leave until checkout as we had a private onsen and all meals served in the room. The dinner was served by a lovely woman who explained each dish and retreated after serving each course (I think 11 in total). Very courteous and respectful, we felt we were treated as esteemed guests. Seafood and vegetable based meal, traditional Japanese cuisine, wonderful, bring a good appetite. Breakfast followed a similar theme. Beds comfortable and private onsen just right. Thank you!!

I have nothing bad to say. If I had to say one thing, I would say that the bathrooms need updating. But, I wouldn’t say that if it wasn’t a mandatory part of this survey.

The service was the best that I have ever had with any travel experience, ever!! The food was absolutely amazing. The view was spectacular. I would highly recommend this for a couple. I went with family and I will definitely go back with my husband.

The arrival instructions were a little confusing. Could be our fault or the bus signage said we were at stop or ment next stop.

Nothing - but might have been helpful to have an information booklet on the hotel facilities and expectations (eg how and when to wear the yukata robe, etc), recommendations for the local area etc., in English for us to refer to

As this was our first Ryokan experience there were a few hiccups and we didn't always know what to do. E.g. the futon bed was not made already when we came back from dinner (like I read before it would be) and as there was no one at the reception we had to figure out the phone (there was a misunderstanding with the instructions when we checked in because of the language barrier). The main issue were my partners dietary restrictions which have made traveling in Japan a bit difficult in general but especially the meal at Hananoyado Fukuya was challenging. I had informed them about the restrictions beforehand but it took a while for them to respond and the response showed the language barrier. I mistakenly thought that they understood everything but unfortunately that was not the case. However, I think with her many restrictions I would have either needed to simplify the request or potentially look into a booking without dinner as the traditional Japanese Ryokan dinner does not work for my girlfriend.

The staff was very attentive and friendly, it was our first experience with a Ryokan and it was great. The onsen was great, we loved that we could enjoy it together. The food was interesting and delicious. The staff spoke basic English which made the stay possible as our Japanese is very limited. It is very close to the lake and you can even spot Mt. Fuji from the lobby, albeit the view is a bit blocked by trees.

The location, near a beautiful lake, is fantastic, but the nearly hour long ride on a very crowded bus to get there was not. Still, I would do it again

The whole experience was just lovely. Staff was kind and attentive, food was amazing (course after course of beautiful traditional dishes), room was spacious, and relaxing in the private outdoor hot spring bath was wonderful as well.

Maybe some soap in the toilet would be helpful so we don't have to cross the room to the sinks with dirty hands.

The hotel and its facilities were amazing. From the moment you walk in, it's a premium experience. The staff speak great English, are super kind and friendly, and will offer their help with any issue you have. Both the private onsen and the public one were excellent and had lovely calm views. The rooms are clean, the air conditioning is quick, and the food was delicious and unlike anything else we had. I honestly regret not staying two nights!

Using public transit, the property is only reachable by bus, and we found the busses in the area to often be delayed, sometimes significantly.

All the staff were exceptionally nice and accommodating. The room was secluded, spacious, and comfortable. The in room and private onsens were luxuries we very much enjoyed, and both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented.

Just the hill to the place, but the pickup driver will take you and your luggage up when you arrive and back down at the end of your stay.

Comfortable spacious room, exceptionally kind staff, who provide a wonderful traditional ryokan experience. We were travelling in a group of three friends and decided to book the room with a private onsen, and kaiseki breakfast. Our first experience was arriving at the 7-11 in town, and the location is up a hill, so we were to call them upon arrival and they sent a white van down to pick us up, labeled with the name of the hotel. The driver was very nice and insisted on loading our many pieces of large luggage himself before driving us up the hill. Be nice to the staff, travel lighter than we did! From there you’re in the care of the hotel staff, they will transport your bags into your room, stow and put out your shoes and umbrellas at the lobby for whenever you go out and come back, and lead you through the traditions (and house rules or requests) starting with a cup of matcha and sweets with a panoramic hillside view of trees (and possibly Mt Fuji on a clear day) as you fill in the check-in forms. When you go out and come back, just make sure to inform the staff of your timing, leave your room keys with them at the desk for pickup when you return. They asked that we try to be back by 8, which is fine as most places in the village are close pretty early and you can have a very nice evening view of the lake, Tori gate, and sunset by then, and then return in time to enjoy the baths at the ryokan for the evening. There is a steep hill to and from the location to the village but it’s also a fairly short hill and around the corner, and it’s quite close then to the 7-11 at the center of town. The room was gorgeous, with lots of space, even a kotatsu, and the attached private onsen was beautiful as the pictures show. We were so full after breakfast each morning, with so many different items to try. I had a few allergies and they took these seriously.
