Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe absolutely loved our stay. This was our favorite accommodation on our trip to Japan. The husband and wife that own the property are extremely attentive, caring, and hospitable. Any question we had, they were able to answer and help us make arrangements. We arrived late the first evening by bus and they were so accommodating that they even picked us up from the bus station! We loved our mornings there as breakfast was delicious and each day included something new and inventive. The room was beautiful and comfortable and the onsen very relaxing. There are some coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance but the property still retains its peaceful quality. I can’t say enough good things about our stay. We will be back!

AustraliaI can’t think of a single thing. Maybe I banged my head on a few walls but it was entirely my own fault, because the rest of the space was so amazing it distracted me from the reality of my own body.
The Private Onsens are heaven on earth. The apartment was one of the most comfortable and cozy spaces I have stayed in. I want my home to emulate this place one day.

AustraliaKunugi was one of the most incredible places we’ve ever stayed. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast included was amazing and the location was only a short walk to shuttle bus stops and restaurants. The owners were kind, friendly and so helpful with suggestions. The outdoor onsen at the accomodation was a great experience too!

AustraliaCan’t think of anything.
Everything exceeded expectation. It was the best hosted experience in our relatively long lives - late 70’s. Every breakfast was different for the ten days with master chef quality. Ryoji organised bookings at an amazing itinerary of restaurants but the best was what his incredible wife cooked in house. Not to be missed!

AustraliaNothing everything was Great
The owners met us at reception and welcomed us warmly giving us a tour of the property. They assisted us by bringing our baggage to the room and showing us all the functions and amenities of the room. They explained how breakfast worked and showed us \where the private onsens were and how to book for our use during our stay. owners assisted us calling taxis and helping us when we returned injured after an incident on mountain left us battered and bruised The room was fantastic with a private bathroom and kitchen facilities. We did not even know about the private onsens at the property WOW so awesome to get sit and relax in the hot waters after a day on the slopes! 10/10! Short walk into Echoland 5 mins depending on how icy it is on the roads, bus stop to the mountain right down the street at the roundabout. They were so sweet and helpful really made our stay unforgettable! Definately book this place you cant go wrong! We will be back!

AustraliaThe lodge is amazing. Extremely clean and welcoming. The superior room with the oversized bathroom is incredible. The outside Onsen is on another level. It’s a close walk to bus stops but far enough to be quiet and private. The owners are amazing and went above and beyond to accommodate us. They speak English very well and are super helpful. Cannot recommend enough and will definitely return. I haven’t stayed in a better accommodation in my years of travelling. 10/10. Thanks for having us.

AustraliaNothing at all. We had the best time.
The location is brilliant. Right near the Echoland shops, restaurants and rotary. Very easy to catch the bus to the slopes. Ryoji is amazing and nothing was too hard for him to organise. This included massages on request for our sore limbs, lift passes, calling taxis, calling restaurants, storage of our bags before check in and assisting in sending our bags back to Tokyo so we didn't need to lug them back on the train with us. The onsen is amazing and you can easily reserve the private one daily as many times as you would like. The rooms are immaculate and accommodating. The breakfast was out of this world good. Gourmet cooking before snowboarding was the perfect start to the day. I honestly could not recommend Kunugi more to anyone seeking a great time away in the snow. We will be back

SingaporeKunugi was a fantastic choice! we did not regret making this booking! Kunugi is newly renovated with just 4 rooms. even though it is a small ryokan, the hospitality and amenities absolutely blew us away. we could make daily booking of the private onsen where you get to have a good shower before entering the hot onsen to cool down in this cold winter while looking at the snow falling in the open air deck right in front. breakfast was fantastic with water, juice, choice of tea/coffee, with salad paired with bread and finally a mains! the rooms were very big with a full toilet even with a bathtub. we are absolutely impressed with all aspects of Kunugi and the hospitality that Mr Ryoji has displayed. we will definitely be back!

United StatesWe absolutely loved our stay here and we highly recommend for travellers considering a holiday to hakuba. The staff were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. They were very accommodating with transfers to and from the bus/train which was a huge help. Everything about the facilities were excellent and well thought out. We particularly loved the massage chair in our room and the private onsens available on site. The location was good too. Only a 5-10 minute walk to the restaurants and to where you catch the bus to the mountains. This was the perfect accommodation to come back to after a day of snowboarding and we hope to stay here again in the future.

Australia- The owners & how accomodating and friendly they are - The character of the property - The on-site onsen’s (hot springs) - The daily breakfast
The character and coziness of the property is unreal. Our room was amazing, wood chalet style with the bedroom loft above the lounge room and plenty of space in the kitchen, lounge and bathroom areas. The bathroom was very large for Japan standards and the big spa bath was incredible and so great to have after long days on the mountain or after being out in the snow. The location is great, short walk to the main strip with the restaurants etc of echoland and right on the corner is the bus stop for most of the buses that service the mountains so that is only mere metres away making getting to/from the mountains super easy. The owners are incredible, they cannot do enough for you. They are welcoming, so friendly and helpful it really made our trip even better. Joe helped book us into places for dinner in the local area as well as visit to the snow monkeys and the bus to return back to Tokyo. Nothing was too difficult and he did all of that speaking with us in English which is exceptional. The included breakfast is exceptional, every day is something different , freshly made in house and served up to you daily. They even accommodated early breakfast times when we wanted to get to the mountain earlier always making sure we were fed outside of the normal times which was not expected but truly appreciated. The biggest value of the property (aside from the amazing room, incredible owners and great hot daily home cooked breakfasts) are rhe onsite onsens which are unreal. The outdoor one set against a snow backdrop was magical and the best thing to relax your muscles after a long day on the mountain. There are three at the property all which are available to you / your room privately so you have the freedom to use them privately and because there are three you can always get into one since there are only 4 rooms at the property. Best experience ever. We cannot thank the owners enough for making us feel so welcome and how beautiful the property is.

SingaporeNothing!
Stayed in the combi suite which was magnificently adorned with details that filled the room with lots of personality. Very spacious room with tatami mat living room, ensuite shower and hot tub, and small kitchenette and laundry area. Meals were exceptional - great breakfast and we topped up for the Shinsu Beef dinner course which was delicious. The common onsen (shower) facilities provided the perfect avenue to unwind and relax after a day on the slopes. Okada-san and his wife were very hospitable hosts and were very helpful with their restaurant and transport recommendations. Definitely a truly memorable stay! Side note - nearest bus stop is the Misorano Rotary but overall transport around hakuba valley is a bit of a challenge without a car.
