It was the one of my favorite hostels I have stayed! Its beautifully designed common area and rooms, hospital and helpful host/owner (Michie), and extremely clean bathroom and rooms. I also loved the new year ritual that Michie took us to experience on New Year's Eve - watching Kohaku, eating soba, going to the temple, ringing the bell.

Such a beautiful, well renovated Ryokan! Spotless clean! Having breakfast in the living room watching Mount fuji in the sunrise was a highlight of my trip. Also very comfortable and spacious beds with good privacy. The owner is incredibly friendly and helpful! The place is a bit further away from the town centre but the owner is very helpful at accommodating and picked me up and dropped me off whenever I needed. He is also very easy and good to communicate with. Just FYI, there is currently only one bike available for rental (the others are being fixed up) so if you plan to bike around the lake reserve the bike in advance.

I loved everything about Hostel Michikusa-ya. A homely atmosphere with incredible views. Not to mention a wonderful host who was more than helpful. Will definitely stay here again :)

My husband and I got off the wrong train station. It was getting dark and close to the closing time when we need to pickup our luggage from the station. We called the owner of the hostel. He immediately came to pick us up. We made to the station to get the luggage. He is the nicest guy. This is the experience we’ll remember for a long time. The room is clean. We were able to see the mountain Fuji sunrise from our room in the cold winter. We’ll definitely come back here next time when we visit Japan again.

Michi was an absolutely delightful host who went to every length to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as it could be. The hostel itself is well situated on the sightseeing route and the facilities were very clean and well stocked. The heater in the room worked VERY well during the cold December months.

It was a very nice homestay with a good view of Mount Fuji. Michi san was not only very kind to help us make reservations to a very good shabu shabu restaurant but also offered my family a ride to the restaurant and bus station very early the next morning. Wonderful experience!

The toilet's light will automatically close in approximately 20 seconds, and should wave your hands to trigger it to open.

The only downside of this hostel is location - it's a bit out of the way if you want to go sightseeing by bus. Green line bus stops about 4 mins away from hostel, but it's only running once an hour - however, this bus might be more frequent in peak season so double check. If you plan to rent a bike however, it solves all of the location problems. Nearest restaurant (amazing Katsudon!) is about 7-8 mins on foot, same with conbini - might be 'far' for some people who are used to having conbini/food within 60m of your hostel, but it was perfectly okay for me.

This house is such a great, instantly comfortable space! One of the top hostels I stayed in during my 4 weeks in Japan. The owner is friendly and inviting, will chat with guests when time allows (foreigners too). Everything was spotlessly clean, there even emergency sanitary pads in women's bathroom, literally the only hostel I have seen to be so thoughtful. Three showers, separate toilet for men and women. Spacious interior overall, bedrooms and the whole house. Lounge area is awesome, a mix of old and new, it was a pleasure to rest there. Very quiet area, I slept really well. Window table in the lounge has an excellent Mt Fuji view (between other houses and with electircal pole, but cmon, it's still a pretty good view). I had the most amazing talk with an older lady from nearby house, my Japanese is just a couple phrases, and she didn't know any English, but we somehow chatted for 5 mins - this was an experience I'll never forget.

The property was beautiful, it has an amazing garden with views of Mount Fuji. The hostel was clean, comfortable, warm and peaceful. The owner was exceptional and went out of his way to help myself and others staying at the hostel. I can’t wait to stay again!

The host went out of his way to accommodate our needs and help us have a wonderful time. He arranged for us to do fireworks as we requested him to guide us as to where to do it. The well equipped kitchen was useful for a night of drinking and fun with friends. The multiple card games available in the spacious and well lit common area were excellent along with many books. The beautiful garden was another excellent space to relax and chat. Overall an excellent experience.

A larger refrigerator as there were many people, but a minimum space.

Impeccable clean, very modern, design of facility is awesome, plenty of parking. Very close to lake. Very close to beautiful gardens, July the lavender in bloom. I had car, and very convenient to cable car venue, many boating activities, and restaurants. Wifi was a bit slow.
