Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing at all!
One of my favourite hostels I’ve ever stayed in. Ken the owner is super nice and has made the place extremely comfortable for guests. Free laundry, free towels, free bottle of water each day and many other luxuries are available. Everything is clean and the rooms, kitchen and lounge are all great. Located in a peaceful neighbourhood but still has all the conveniences of shops and restaurants and is easily accessible by train to and from anywhere you want to go.

FranceIt's a bit far away from the first metro station. But there's a JR line nearby, I may just have been too intimidated to use it and not help myself actually 😆
I had a super good time at Caranashi hostel. Very comfy and Ken the owner was super cool 😎 I would definitely come back if I pass by Osaka

DenmarkThe location was great, in a more quit neighbourhood away from the centre of Osaka. It took me 5 minutes to the nearest train station from where you could get to all the sightseeing in Osaka. The hostel is very cozy and has around 5 guestrooms. This makes it very easy to get in contact with other guests and staff in the common room. The staff is amazing and also organizes sometimes things in the evening, like dinner or trying sake.

TaiwanThe location is a bit far away from the center, so only recommend who wants a more quiet experience.
The staff is friendly and takes care of the plants very well. They made the place homely and provide things travelers can easily forget to bring, such as hairpin etc.

SwitzerlandWell, it didn't affect my overall stay but for two nights out of four, I could hear my room neighbor snoring loudly as between the rooms is a traditional Japanese sliding paper wall (fusuma).
Very friendly host with some broken English, but we could still understand each other thanks to body language and translating app ;-) The Japanese style room matched the pictures. The lounge as well as the kitchen have been lovingly furnished which I didn't use them much. Daily one free water bottle is a plus. You can even buy beer from the mini bar and there are some ramen to buy. The location is also great. Not in a crowded touristy area, but still you can access to major stations (Tsuruhashi, Namba) quickly from Imazato. Bear in mind to take the Kintetsu line to the Imazato train station, not metro. There are some 24h convenience stores in the area to grab some food/drink anytime, and also a bakery if you want to eat breakfast there. If you travel in the summer, consider to regularly turn on the air conditioner as sometimes the high room temperature can be unbearable.

AustraliaHostel Caranashi's owner is wonderful, he has filled the place with all the things that he enjoys. He is extremely friendly and is wonderful to chat with. I loved coming back at night and enjoying a good conversation over a nice couple of drinks. The place itself is wonderful, especially the main room with the wide windows. The owner will show you local places that he really likes as well and it is wonderful to be able to go to those places rather than non-tourist spots. You really get to see a person in all the places he shared. He is extremely friendly and will really want to make you feel welcome and has put a lot of his heart and soul into this place.

PolandThe hostel is little far away from the Shinkansen station, which was inconvenient when I wanted to make one-day trips to Nara and Himeji.
Unlike other places, this hostel is run by hosts who live there (it's a private house) which allows you to get to know some locals. These people are very friendly and polite. The room I stayed in was a traditional japanese-style room with futon bed. It was comfortable and clean. The common areas were also clean. Amenities were provided.

JapanNot exactly a con, but as the property is traditional Japanese style, the partitions between some rooms are only a sliding paper screen and sound travels through easily. Earplugs are sold on the first floor.
The place is easy to find and located not far from Imazato station (approx 6min). The owner is very friendly and the place is cozy. Besides the usual towel and bath supplies, many other amenities are provided, even a bottle of drinking water daily. I think the owner put a lot of thought into what travelers would need for a comfortable stay. For this price, it is very reasonable and a great choice if you want to try sleeping in a traditional Japanese room.

Didnt spend much time in the room but it was quiet, and there was a nice park outside. Owner was nice and patient considering i didnt know any japanese. Very nice place would recommend

United StatesWe arrived at 8pm and no rooms were ready aside from a shared dormitory which was shared bunk beds which is listed nowhere on the listing (I imagined it meant small room). The owner claimed my friend booked only for himself so he had to pay a room change charge to accommodate his gf and they ended up getting a smaller room than I did by myself. I find it hard to believe that across 6 bookings he forgot to specify two people for one. The walls had a terrible paint job and were very dirty, it made it clear that all the photos on the booking page were heavily edited. Upstairs bathroom did not have a functioning sink and the bathrooms had black mold growing in them. Location was terrible, most run down area in all of Japan from what I saw on my 2 week trip. The area was only reachable by a local train that so going anywhere nice required a minimum of two train rides, over 30 min from Dotobori. Lastly the outdoor light was never on at night making it very hard to not pass the place in the dark since it had nothing else to help it stand out.
The initial price was low and reasonable for how poor the conditions were... however being charged extra for rooms upon arrival was very upsetting.
