    Absolutely nothing. Everything was 10/10

I don’t know where to start. Since the beginning, we felt that this was going to be a special experience! They take care of every minimal detail to accommodate all requests. It was a magical and unique experience! The best retreat we could ask for after such busy days exploring Japan. I can’t wait to be back!!

During our recent stay at the Villa, we experienced both conveniences and challenges that are worth noting. Firstly, the hotel enforces a strict check-in time of 3 PM and a check-out time of 11 AM. For travelers who prefer a more relaxed schedule, this is an important consideration. The hotel is located about 30 minutes north of Yumato Station, accessible via public bus or taxi. Unfortunately, there were no clear instructions provided on how to navigate to the property, which led to some initial confusion. Future guests would benefit from detailed directions being included in the booking confirmation. Communication posed a significant challenge during our stay. The staff’s limited proficiency in English made it difficult for us to check in smoothly, interact with restaurant personnel, and store our luggage at check-out. Additionally, finding information on how to explore the local area was a struggle, though we did enjoy the onsite Onsen, which became a highlight of our visit. Dining options at the Villa cater primarily to fans of traditional Japanese cuisine, specifically kaiseki meals. If this isn't to your taste, options are limited both onsite and in the vicinity. Although we had read that in-room breakfast was possible, our request was declined—possibly due to a misunderstanding caused by the language barrier. Overall, while the Villa offers a unique experience reflective of its locale, better communication and guest support could enhance the stay tremendously. This destination is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in local culture and cuisine, and who are prepared for a rustic adventure rather than a conventional tourist experience.

We stayed at a villa that was further away from the construction site (they are currently building new cabins/ villas), so we didn't experience any noise at all. And the hotel informed us about the construction that's underway at the time of booking as well as in several follow emails. The private Onsen experience is top-notch and very relaxing. Villas are providing expansive room for 2 adults. The place is extremely clean and well-maintained.

The Villa that we stayed in was absolutely gorgeous. The staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make our accommodations the best. The private onsen was so nice and comforting. A great getaway from all the hustle from the bigger cities in Japan. Would highly recommend this retreat to anyone.

Room was very hot. Staff found our requests to top sheet and some questions difficult to understand. They tried hard. Not enough food options for breakfast. It was very expensive. I expected more for the price but it was still lovely

Everything in this place is beautiful. Very peaceful and calming cottages with welcoming staff. They tailored our needs and always available to help. Special thanks to Ms Ayako for the great service from booking to checking out. All the staff were amazing as well. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a quiet stay in nature.

Depending on your plans for the day, only the bus is available near the hotel. So if you want to explore or go to different restaurants, it takes a little bit longer. But the bus does the job. It takes you to more major places to visit. However, if its to rest, it's ok. Also the check out is at 11am.. and not 1min more. For occidental people who likes to take their time it's a little bit confusing when someone is knocking at your door to tell you its time. But I think it's just a question of a different culture and that Japanese are maybe more respectful of the rules in this side.

As a cabin crew, I'm used to travel and go to different hôtels around the world 20 nights per months.. From 1 to 5 stars, so far this one is one of the best I went to. Staff are respectful and kind, making you feel peaceful and at home. They immediately do the task when you ask so you don't have to wait to have the onsen at a higher temperature for exemple. In 1 min it's done and someone is coming. This is very appreciable. They come to pick you up at the bus station. You have a welcoming drink of your choice. Place is amazing, in the forest. You really feel like a peaceful atmosphère. There are everything you need in the room like dyson hairdryer, scrunchie, face cream and cleaning... Plus Staff are so dedicated that pyjamas and shoes for outside and inside are also choose in your size. (Depending female and male). I like the detail-oriented and this hôtel is very good in it. The appartement is comfy and cosy. 4 stars hôtel so far.

Rather stupidly I booked one night at Matsuzakaya Honten instead of one. So this was a last minute booking for the second night in Hakone. The villa with private onsen was beautiful with spectacular views. V60 kit was an added bonus. The staff were excellent. However, there was no room service and until we paid the bill at checkout had no idea if we were paying for dinner - the menu didn't have price apart from the extras. We kept second guessing if it was included or not (usually included at onsens). The dinner at the french restaurant was average but the breakfast was exceptional. Overall it is a great property but Matsuzakaya is a level above, although both were priced similarly (when you include cost of the average dinner).

The stairs from the entry way / toilets down to the main bedrooms can be quite steep for older folks to navigate. The audio system isn’t as easy to tag on to. Also just be mindful that their check-in staff is only on duty till 530/6pm so you will need to time your drive there (although they will make sure to make alternatives to come find you).

The friendly and helpful staff - Kira san who attended to us during our Keiseiki dinner was the most helpful and elevated our dining experience. Eager to share useful tips on how to further enjoy our stay around the area.

There was some construction going on, so at times we can hear the construction noise. Also, there are signs of aging in the cabin, cracked floor, water stains etc.

This is our second stay here and we truly enjoyed our experience. We liked the wooden cabin which was nice and quiet most of the time. It felt like a very secluded area since we barely saw anyone during our stay. The staff was always super nice and helpful.

If you're looking to do a lot of exploring in Hakone, this may not be the place for you – it's very secluded and takes about 30-45 minutes by bus to reach any of the area museums or downtown Hakone. We wanted the "retreat" feel, however, so this was not a problem for us!

Our suite was immaculate – it had an extremely comfortable bed and pillows, a private onsen, a terrace, and nice amenities, including a sound system with high-quality speakers. The onsen was lovely and it was so nice to soak and relax after all our travel! We ate VERY well here; the restaurants on site serve multiple-course dinners complete with wine and sake pairings, and the breakfast options were also very nice. I had a reflexology massage appointment at the spa during our stay and it was wonderful. The staff is equipped with golf carts and they are more than happy to drive you from place to place, including taking you and your luggage directly to the bus stop after check-out.
