Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesAs a Western solo traveler, there’s a lot about food etiquette that isn’t very obvious. Namely, kaiseki style dining and how it’s eaten. There were multiple times I was eating things “incorrectly” or too soon (e.g., I thought that the six plates on a tray brought to me were all the food there was so I start eating but then someone comes with two other rounds and expected me to have waited for them, or there was small pot of stew that was supposed to be cooked in front of me but it appeared to have been cooked before I arrived so I almost ate raw seafood on accident). It was a wonderful experience but i just feel the dining experience was a bit more stressful than it needed to be

GermanyConveniently and calm location. The food was exceptional and a highlight of our stay. After visiting the island, the onsen offers a good chance to relax.

AustraliaNothing to report Just note it’s an onsen - so our room has a toilet and basin but no shower/bath - you use the onsen. Which was perfectly fine and super cool with amenities etc.
Loved the meal - gave us such a good experience of many things. Brilliant cultural experience for our family and the kids were so nervous with the onsen, but loved it in the end.

AustraliaWhat did we like? Everything. From the pick-up from the farry to the drop-off after they had stored our luggage for the day Everything was first class. After check-in we were served tea in our rooms and given a run down on the facilities of the accommodation. Our rooms were clean and comfortable - japanese style tatami with futons set up while we were at dinner. Dinner was awesome. We were given some dining information and guided through the multi courses. We chose the paired wines which worked beautifully. Breakfast mirrored dinner, there was guidance about the different courses. And the balance of flavours was spot on. Would be very happy to have the privilege of returning.

United StatesNothing, really. There are some places where you can see its age (water spots, worn wood) but that is part of the charm of staying in a ryokan that has operated since 1854!
I loved the location- it was very convenient to the shrine and park.

United StatesVery nice location. A traditional Japanese experience. The onsen are lovely. One pool inside and one outside. Dinner and breakfast are traditional Japanese meals. Bed are futons on the floor, so do not expect a regular bed. Staff was very helpful and freindly. Location is great. It is a short walk to the town and bay front.

SpainDifficult to find anything to be improved, but if something could be mentioned, as it is a ryokan, the old building rooms have no private showers and there some light coming from the corridor during night time
Location in a Miyajima, close to main interesting points, and the atmosphere of the hotel is great. Food is really authentic. Staff hospitality is superb.

GreeceThe dinner was well presented but the taste is so unique and japanese that it might be difficult for a westerner. We couldn't eat more than half the plates. Was a lot more expensive than the other ryokan in the area.
Very beautiful ryokan. The yukata. The onsen. Very clean. Polite staff. A nice experience of traditional ryokan.

IsraelThe dinner was very specific, therefore, in the hotel's requests, write in detail what you don't like and don't eat. I wrote limited details, so I got things I like less.
First of all the transfer from the ferry platform to the hotel was super convenient. As was sent to us in the message, we asked a service woman on the platform to call the hotel and immediately after the call we were told that the transfer was on its way. The location of the hotel is excellent and requires around 3 minutes of walking to reach important places on the island. The room was very large and had everything you need in the room. When you check in at the hotel, they bring you green tea and famous local cookies - very pleasant.

Amazing experience in a very nice Ryokan! The building itself is amazing, very close the the main interest points. All the staff is simply wonderful, they will do their best to make you feel at home. Last but not least, the food: I highly recommend to eat both dinner and breakfast at the ryokan: one of the best foods tried in Japan!

United StatesWonderful facilities, GORGEOUS outdoor/indoor onsen with beautiful views, EXCELLENT food, and wonderful service! The dinner was out of this world. It’s very close to the trailhead to hike Mt Misen, which you should definitely do. We left some things behind accidentally and the staff immediately forwarded them on to our next hotel, and called the hotel to arrange the details. Top notch in every way!
