One of my favourite ryokans I’ve ever stayed in! Such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, lovely rooms and comfortable futon. Loved the private bath we were able to use a few times. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, it really felt like “coming home”. Super glad we booked this as part of our honeymoon and I’ll be staying here again if I return to Kusatsu!

I did not know breakfast needed to be ordered/reserved a day ahead of time. I learned my first morning. The hotel was able to accommodate, but it would have helped if we were asked at check in. Traditional pillows are hard.

Location was right in the middle of everything. The onsen in the hotel was very nice and convenient.

It was very lovely stay. The location was excellent and the staff was even better. I really appreciate that the gentleman at the reception spoke perfect English! They also arranged breakfast earlier for us as I had to catch the bus back to Tokyo. We had really great time there

If I really HAD to push and say something I didn't like (very hard to do as everything was lovely) - I found the rice pillow to be a bit uncomfortable to sleep on. But I say that knowing full well that they told us in advance that those were the pillows and knew what we were getting ourselves into.

This hotel, room, and location was wonderful! Great to see in the winter time, and close to the little town with restaurants and shops. My husband and I especially loved the private onsen!

The Onsen was gorgeous, clean and well organised with an efficient and easy to understand system. The staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful, and spoke English very very well. The rooms were beautiful and super warm (even while there in the snow you did not have to worry about rugging up). I loved the classic wooden ryokan set-up and tatami floors with futons. Futons were also made for you each night while you were out, and packed up for you after you left in the morning.

The ryokan is on a slightly steep hill, so I would recommend to pack light.

There were both private and public onsen bath options. The manager was very helpful and spoke excellent English. It was nice traditional ryokan experience

Very clean, comfortable and hospitable service. Short walk from bus terminal, expect an uphill workout from carrying your bags up. Right beside the ryokan is the entrance to a park/shrine so good for a short morning walk. Appreciate the private bath option.

Without being a complaint, I noticed that the breakfast may not have been quite sufficient as I ended up feeling hungry.

There are many things I liked about this Ryokan, starting with the excellent service from the staff—they were always attentive and very helpful. They spoke perfect English. Secondly, I loved that everything is within walking distance, especially the main tourist attractions in the area. My room was just the right size for three adults, with a small space overlooking the garden. Lovely natural lighting. Having a toilet in the room, even though it was a small space, was a great convenience. I would return without hesitation

There was no electric kettle, and as hot water does not flow from the washbasin, we had to brush our teeth w freezing water. Host provided a hot water flask, but it was only enough for consumption.

We felt a homely environment. We like that we can use the private bath without a need to make reservation.

The ryokan is located on a high slope and there is no shuttle service to pick us up from the station. We lost our breath pushing our luggages up. One of the room we got doesn't have toilet inside the room..

The staffs were kind, onsen was good. A bit too hot for my liking.

The property is located on top of a hill which we didn’t know, so we had to lug our big luggages up the hill! There was no lift in the ryokan as well. A note to ourselves is to not bring big bags to onsen towns!

A Ryokan with a homely feel! The gentleman who checked us in spoke really good english and we had no issues with communication whatsoever. He made our stay especially pleasant! The onsen water at Kusatsu is also to the next level! You come with dry and rough skin and leave with silky smooth skin. Highly recommend this onsen town!

We met a super hotel man there. We arrive on the wrong date and the hotel man help us rearrange our booking with both kirishimaya and the other one. He can speak english very well and really polite :) I and my friend really impress for his service. A room, a bath, boardgames, mangas, piano, everything is perfect :) We will definitely come back!

Kind and attentive host, tasteful furnishing, everywhere seems the ownership spirit of the 5 generations (as we learned). English fluently spoken. The famous Kusatsu hot water in the house onsen. 1st class futon beds. Could not choose any better.
