  • Hanaingen Review score: 9

“Very convenient. Less than 5 minutes from bus station and central Kusatsu square. Lovely welcome snack and breakfasts on both days (which they kindly switched up so I didn’t have same thing twice - although I liked the Japanese breakfast more!)”

  • Kirishimaya Ryokan Review score: 10

“One of my favourite ryokans I’ve ever stayed in! Such a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, lovely rooms and comfortable futon. Loved the private bath we were able to use a few times. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, it really felt like “coming home”. Super glad we booked this as part of our honeymoon and I’ll be staying here again if I return to Kusatsu!”

  • Kiyoshigekan Review score: 10

“The staffs were kind, and the facility was good. There was no issue during our stay at all.”

  • Matoi Hostel & Bar Review score: 10

“The friendliest atmosphere I've ever experienced in a hostel! You feel like part of one big family here. The staff is exceptionally kind, willing to help, and they organize many activities where you can get to know others really well. :) (Casino, karaoke…) A superb location for Initial D fans who want to explore Gunma. 🩷 Definitely follow their Instagram account @matoihostelbarjp to find out more about the events they organize. The rooms are clean, they have really tasty and original food - YOSHIDA IS THE BEST COOK! Among other things, they can also arrange shuttle bus transportation. :) Thank you all, you're amazing! We'll definitely be back! Anna & Kuba”

  • Takaragawa Onsen Ousenkaku Review score: 9

“An incredible experience up in the mountains! We stayed for one night, which for us was the perfect amount to experience the onsen and traditional rooms. The hotel make travel to the remote area easy for people coming by train, and arranging a spot on their free mini bus was easy beforehand. The food was lovely, and the staff were all incredibly kind, explaining how the outside onsen work. My partner is also over 6ft, and there were yukata and slippers that worked for him - he just had to remember to duck :)!”
