Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hong KongI like it a lot but if need to choose a thing to talk about will be the room is a bit small.
The location is superb, super close to Karushiki ancient town. I love the architecture of this building and the little river inside the hotel makes it more unique. Highly recommend this hotel for staying in Karushiki.

PeruThe room itself was nothing special. It was very standard Western style and on the small side, but it was very clean and had what most guests would expect in a hotel room. It feels like you're paying more for the ambiance of the hotel itself than the individual room.
Ivy Square is a charming converted mill right near the popular tourist destinations in Kurashiki. You can literally walk out of the rear of the hotel and be shopping in the historic picturesque district. So great location. The hotel grounds are interesting with a beautiful courtyard with koi ponds and small side street lined with sakura trees. There is a good restaurant inside of the hotel with affordable Japanese cuisine. There is also a public bath just for guests of the hotel. The staff was kind enough to store my luggage before checkin and gave a claim ticket to keep things straight.

New ZealandThe welcome at breakfast time was lovely but the food was pretty average. We had enjoyed amazing breakfasts at other properties we stayed at and this was just....food and average coffee. Not something I looked forward t in the morning. We didn't use the bar as it had usual opening hours. It didn't open until late.
We have found Japanese beds pretty uncomfortable in the main - always very very hard. These were not too bad...a little bit soft. The air con and heating was good and the room was reasonably spacious. The bathroom had the best lighting of anywhere we stayed ion ur Japanese trip. The laundry was fantastic - you could set a code on there machine so you could be sure that your items were safe. We had tried using the provided app for recommendations but when we got to recommended places - they were closed. Sp the next day we asked the staff for specific recommendations and for reservations and their suggestions were fabulous!

AustraliaBreakfast was a disappointment. we didn't know what most of it was, the scrambled eggs in Japan are eaten almost raw which we could not eat, the bacon was not nice. We only ate the yoghurt and canned fruit. did not get our money's worth.
The building, architecture, position, public bath, cleaning staff and all facilities.

Hong KongSince it is a converted use, the room we got was in a wing that required crossing the lobby to go to the onsen located in another wing. It's awkward arrangement.
Hotel is right next to Bikan Historical district. The environment is very nice and photographic with beautiful brick walls, ivy, cherry trees. Parking is just across the street.

Hong KongNot sure if that was due to special occasion, the hotel and nearby restaurants are almost all closed. I can't find any restaurants for dinner. I have to go out of that area to find fast food restaurants. Not the hotels fault. Just a note to other visitors.
Location can't be any better if you are going to visit Kurashiki. The hotel blends into the historical area nicely. The hotel itself is indeed a spot to visit room. We booked family room which is bigger and nicer than many hotels we visited at similar rate. The room seems newly renovated. Hotel staff are nice.

Hong KongNothing much really. If I have to be picky, I think the hotel can offer free parking to hotel guest.
The hotel is right next to Kurashiki most iconic area. In fact, it is part of it. The hotel has some historical taste but interior is very new. We booked a family room, cost was roughly the same as two regular room, experience was definitely more than double. The public bath also add on the already lovely experience

United KingdomThe bar didn’t open until 8pm and, while two restaurants were advertised, clearly only one (serving Japanese food) was operating. We booked a table for 7:30pm and several dishes weren’t available for us as their last order was before this time.
Rooms are modern and extremely comfortable, if small. The moderate twin was difficult to have 2 suitcases open at once. The hotel is in a great location for exploring Kurashiki old town and taking day trip to Okayama. Restaurant offers traditional Japanese cuisine which is very tasty.

SwedenThe pillows are really thick. I prefer thinner pillows so I to sleep without a pillow.
The building is beautiful even in the beginning of spring. During summer I imagine it to be even lovelier when you can sit outside in the courtyard. It was very quiet and relaxing everywhere, and the staff was so helpful. I loved the public bath, and I am so grateful I could enter despite having a couple of big tattoos.

AustraliaThe beds were a bit firm for our liking. The shop onsite was under construction so there was limited items available. A little hard to navigate as it is a vert large complex. No clothes washing/drying facility.
The location is excellent for those wanting to explore the Bikan HIstorical Quarter. Lots of nearby dining and cafe options. The staff member we dealt with had extremely good English. The rooms are comfortable enough and ell worth the price. We highly recommend a visit to the Piggy Bank and Toy Museum across the road, sadly not a terribly accessible building but the collection and its owner's enthusiasm makes it worth the visit if you're able.

JapanNothing to complain about. Small item - bar didn’t open until 8pm, we would have liked to have had a drink before going out to dinner.
If you are visiting the historic district of Kurashiki, this is THE best place to stay - superb location (in the district) and, as a historic building itself, it has personality. Our room comfortable, newly remodeled with high ceilings, and very quiet. Cool bar in the basement. Lovely open courtyard - wonderful for sitting outside when the weather is nice. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice public bath.
