Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ThailandLimited shower room and bathroom.
I had a wonderful experience. The hostel is conveniently located not far from the bus terminal. The owner was incredibly generous, offering me a ride to Yubatake after check-in and suggesting some excellent onsens to visit. I enjoyed my stay here very much as it was close to everything. I was able to walk to Sainokawara Park for the best outdoor onsen, and even walked further to the Kusatsu Ski Resort. The nice weather made it perfect for hiking. The hostel also provides complimentary drinks, and I enjoyed having coffee every morning and making my favorite noodles for dinner. Overall, it was a delightful stay, and I highly recommend it.

We are coming here on long weekend, all hotels around kusatsu are fully booked. But we can get a room in Kotodama, not a dormitory but Japanese tatami room for 2 people. It was nice, we slept on futon, just feels like you stay at your japanese friends house. The bathroom and toilet are shared, but it’s not a big deal for us, it’s clean. We came to check in around 22.10, but nobody there. What is the problem? It’s turn out that they didn’t accept late check in except you informed them in advance. It was my fault, I didn’t read the email carefully, and because it’s in japanese, i didn’t really understand. It’s fortunately my husband, which is japanese, called them and they can accept us that night. The reception coming to the hotel 15 mnts after we called them. Fiuh… thank you so much, we really appreciate your service.

United StatesIt got a bit cold in there at times, the shower facilities weren’t the best.
Excellent location, only 4 mins. walk to station. Bed was comfortable, full kitchen. The owners were really nice. I’d stay there again, because of them.

NetherlandsSadly someone in the room was snoring very loudly so I couldn't sleep (not the hostels' fault). Towels were not included sadly. I slipped on the stairway using the slippers that I had to use. It's very slippery so take care going down the stairs.
It was a nice place and not too far from the center. The bus stop was 5 minutes walking and the center was about 10 minutes walking. The host was nice and helped out a lot. The bed was comfortable.

United StatesHaving to pay for bottled water and towels is quite annoying so if you plan on staying here make sure to bring your own towels for shower or for going to onsen.
We stayed in the private double room. Nice, spacious, and a great value, especially since most other hotels in the area were 4x the price. The room was clean and the bedding was comfortable.

FranceSince the dormitory is provided with bunked beds, you really realize that you are sleeping with other people. There are no curtains at the end of the bed which doesn't help (I had to hang my coat and my towel for more privacy), and wood planks on the sides aren't full lenght. The shared space downstairs is just the kitchen with two small stools so don't expect to relax here !
The location is very nice, not to far away from the center of Kusatsu Onsen. It is perfect for people travelling on a budget. The beds are quite confortable.

The place is so close to the city center, restaurants and mini markets are all around! The beds are comfortable and everything is clean and nice. There is even a kitchen ready to be used!

SwitzerlandThe location was central, about 10 minutes walk to the onsen. The accommodation was nicely furnished in an old house, but had been nicely renovated. It was very clean and the beds in the dormitory were comfortable, with curtains for privacy and lockers. We didn't use the kitchen but it was well equipped and even spices like curry were provided free of charge.

This is quite a nice hotel, idealy placed at the beginning of the town, you can start from there and make your way around the numerous onsen the town provide. The room is clean and imitate the style of Ryokan. The bathroom and toilet are shared, but clean and numerous, there is a shared kitchen too even though we didn't used it.
