Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThat they charge for using a bath they have on the terrace
Wonderful place to stay. We stayed at a typical Japanese room that was very comfortable and had a nice balcony were you could sit and have your tea. The food was excellent;, not only beautiful but delicious. Be aware that breakfast can't be served too early. It's a little pricey, but it compensates since the food is so good. It's also very close to Hakone Yumoto station (walking distance, 7 min) .

SpainA memorable stay. The staff was warm and kind, we arrived during a rainy day and the person that welcomed us felt like a mom taking care of you with love. The room and bed were very spacious, it had everything we needed. The private Onsen in the room was amazing. The bed so comfortable (even the pillow was amazing which is very hard to find in an Hotel). Location is great (7min walk from station), but the best was the traditional dinner amd breakfast. We will cherish this day as something very special. Thank you so much!

The dinner and breakfast is really nice and beyond expectation. the room is very warming and cozy. Host lady is very nice and sweet, it was raining and they have some umbrella you can use. I would definitely come again.

United KingdomThe Western-style bed was just futons on a raised platform, so it's quite firm but we slept absolutely fine.
We were given such a warm welcome here. The baths are fantastic, we used both the gendered baths and the private rooftop. There aren't very many guests so you have a good chance of being alone in the gendered baths. The food was really special and unique.

The inn itself is in an excellent location and very easy to reach from the train station. When you enter, you are greeted with a true Ryokan experience and very friendly, welcoming staff. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the room we had had its own onsen bath which was incredible - it really made the trip. The food was excellent prepared and represented traditional Japanese cuisine and again the service was overall excellent. Breakfast is also similar in that it is traditional Japanese fare that has been prepared to a very high standard. We also hired the private rooftop onsen for a small extra charge, but it really made our stay memorable - I strongly recommend to do this if you can. The best part of the trip was absolutely the staff, especially the landlady who was extremely helpful, welcoming and a delight to talk to. Thank you for making our stay so lovely;

JapanWe felt being rushed through dinner as the staff kept coming and taking away the cutlery. We felt that we couldn't really enjoy the meal without being interrupted. With that being said, the meals were beautifully done.

Everything was perfect. We were able to drop off our luggage in the morning before embarking on the Hakone Free Pass loop. Once we checked-in, a wonderful dinner was served by the ryokan's friendly staff. We were also fortunate enough to have booked the Sakura room where we had a private bath. The public onsens were also fantastic and very relaxing. Overall, a very comfortable stay and a reasonable price!

AustraliaPublic bath areas on the smaller side however not much of an issue for us.
The Ryokan was an exceptional experience, we arrived earlier than the expected check-in time and they allowed us to drop off our luggage early. The dinner service was amazing as well. We paid extra to use the private onsen on the rooftop (note, you have to reserve a time slot on the day after checking in, I think it was around 3300 yen from memory). It was so cute to see them organize our shoes neatly as well. When travelling, we were advised by our host to avoid the bus in case of peak hour traffic on our way back and we might miss our dinner service - so took on the advice to take the train instead.

GermanyFor me the traditional futon bed was too hard so I didn't sleep well. There was also a strange smell in the room, maybe of incense or cleaning product, it disturbed me but not my husband. I would have liked the option to use the onsen outside of check-in hours.
The Ryokan experience feels very genuine, it is a small in with only few rooms, the yukatas they lend are very pretty and the food was great as expected. The onsen was also very nice, with the possibility to book the rooftop private bath at an extra cost. Walking distance to Hakone yumoto station, so quite convenient for touring the region. The owner was really kind and thoughtful.

This trip was the highlight of our stay. The ryokan is in a wonderful location, it felt quiet and safe and was easy to get to. Staff were incredible, especially the owner despite the language barrier. She gave us advice on how best to see Fuji for our future travels. The food is the real star of the show, we have never eaten so much incredible food in our lives. And it was delicious. I would pay hundreds of dollars to experience that food alone again as it was one of the best experiences of my life.

ItalyIt would also be nice to alternate the hours of the onsen on the ground floor. I don't find it very fair that men always only have from 6 to 9 a.m. and women the rest of the day. Personally, I'm someone who always gets up early so it wasn't a big problem but maybe someone who would like to sleep a bit more would be happy not to have to get up at 8.30 am to be able to enjoy this other onsen too
Traditional ryokan not far from Hakone station. Equipped with two different types of Honsen with real thermal water with unique properties. Traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast. You will also be provided with traditional clothing but it is your choice whether to wear it or not. Definitely worth it to see a quieter, more relaxing side of Japan after perhaps so many days immersed in the big metropolises.

Fantastic ryokan with very warm and clean hotspring baths. Very nice interior all throughout the building. Dinner and breakfast were a very special experience. Beautiful spacious room with traditional furniture. The owner was extremely friendly, we loved her despite us only communicating with hands and feet and our 3 words of Japanese. The rest of the staff speaks decent English so never any problems.
